The distortion is definitely off, but the sound itself could make for a good source sound

I totally agree I don't think they're very close to the barely alive sound at all, not really very formant-ish
or anything like that, sorry to sound harsh

Glitch Hop remix of Limp Bizkit's song 'Take A Look Around' that Meyer Rogers and I put together for a school project.
I guess you'd call the main bass a growl. Theres also some reeses in there. If anyone wants the logic session i'd be willing to give it away.

Keep in mind, his goal is not to replicate their sound. Because this is pointless. He's trying to understand their technique, and from what I can hear the technique is rather similar.

I think this is definitely the best one yet but something seems off with the distortion or possibly EQ. There's like a hint of too much mids in the mix doesn't make it sound as full as the second version. But this is the best attempt I've heard at hooks sound.

Oh my lord! How? Mind sharing a patch with us or telling us your effects chain? And filtering?
and everything else
The original sound is coming from operator with pitch bending which gives a lot of movement, next, you can use abletons formant eqs in a chain of an instrument rack, it's important to put overdrive after the formant eqs because then it makes the formant effect more solid, next in another chain you just want an overdrive to bring the original synth through and finally a bit of phase and distortion and you get this result

What waveforms are you using in Operator if you don't mind me asking?

Damn dude, you're getting good at these growls haha. Is this FM8 or Massive? And what types of effects chains are you using?
I want that patch so bad

Sometimes I wonder what goes through peoples minds, thanks for the dick head move jack sawyer and for who ever said my sounds were shit its because obviously it wasn't my focus. Thanks for the feedback anyways you unsupportive fucks.
Now for the people who actually understood my point(OceanAries, IamDroid) for making this growl was to literally understand a similarity in technique between the two growls.
I will still be posting but some of you need to learn a better way of responding to people.
Telling them there sounds suck(Which they dont if you have a fucking brain) isnt helping them at all. Thanks for your time DSFers!

I made custom waveforms by messing with the harmonics

Way to take negative feedback dude. Seriously... if that's how you react to mild criticism such as the stuff posted above, just... lol, you sound childish as hell. To be honest I kinda expected that sort of reaction and though twice about posting, it's happened before on this forum, a lot of people can't accept negative comments about their stuff - sure it's upsetting if people don't like your work but you've got to learn to take the good along with the bad.
As I said in my post, specifically, I don't want to come across as a dick, I understand why you're making the sounds and the process you're going through... good on you and if you like the outcome even better. However to me the sounds in those clips are lacking something... and imo they're lacklustre, take my (and the other posters) oppinions, or leave them - it's up to you, but flipping out if someone says your stuff is crappy isn't the way to go.

I think you're right in the fact that people need to learn how to take negative feedback/constructive criticism, but literally just calling someones sound crappy is neither of the two. That just sounds like a deliberate insult.
I think he's the closest on here to BA's sound so far IMO.

I'm more upset about the fact that I have been at this for 13 years and I have a TON of experience in production and sound design... and to hear someone call me out on some pointless sounds that I didn't give a fuck about made me wonder why you were complaining about the sounds in the first place. "THE OFFICIAL GROWL THREAD" not shitty sounds thread get my Point? Sorry I took out of proportion but I don't take being criticized on things I'm not here to get feedback about. I wanted feedback on my growls, I got what I needed from OceanAries for he gave constructive Criticism. I don't take Rude Comments or that shit talk at all.. I fuckin hate that shit and there is no good that comes from it.
Sooooo I apologize for my behavior but I also don't want bullshit feedback. We are here to help each other.
Now for my Growl Process:
Saw Wave > Soundgoodizer or Sausag Fattener > HP Filter > MultiBand Distortion(distort the Mid slightly and distort the Highs) > EQ (cut the low end) > Vowel Filter (whatever you prefer) > EQ (boost the highs) > Soundgoodizer or Sausage Fattener > Stereo imager(for width) > Compress > Limiter
I need help understanding what to change here. this could help all of us.

I'm gonna start working in trying to recreate this so I can try to manipulate it and see what I can do to make it sound "better" or "closer" to hooks sound. But before I do, can you be a bit more descriptive of what you did with the initial "saw" wave.

I'm surprised no one is freaking out over Jack Sawyer's growl. I'll make it my life mission to recreate that thing lol.

Is it growling right out of harmor? Or just a simple saw?
