played for another hour or so, got to the boss at level 18 but every hit he does with that crazy spam hits really hard and only the barbarian king feels capable of tanking him to any degree. I managed to get him to just under half hp after a few runs but realised I simply don't have the equips yet to deal with him. I will try and level up a bit more and try to grab some blueprints and runes to help me out as well.
I've encountered the areas outside the initial castle part as well, but had my ass handed to me really hard so just turn tail instantly when I accidentally run into these new areas. Think I will leave them for later xD

Would this game you're talking about be playable on the infamous 'gpu-less laptops'?

I can't beat the 3rd boss at all. Utter bastard. Fantastic and wholly addictive game. Could do with more monster variation if anything.

Yea I'm gonna try to tackle him today, I wouldn't mind some more enemies and content as well, but damn best $15 spent on a game in ages, and hell I got it free by selling those Steam cards

Damn game developers always disregard people who don't own gpu's.

I don't really understand why this game needs a GPU anyway, the graphics are extremely basic....
might be worth trying out the demo before the full game mate, you never know you might get it running anyway.

Think it'll be a stretch, but I'll try.
Blindly bought Awesomenauts, thinking that it had to run smooth on low but that's not really the case.
Easily hit 99 degrees on it I think.

Yea I was amped for Rome 2 until I saw there is about $60+ of day one DLC. Fucking Sega.
I am gonna preorder the new Rise of the Triad though, amped as fuck for that.

Got Borderlands 2 recently, was really impressed. So much polish. £20 as well! To think some absolute dogshit games are asking for £35-£40...

funny how people think bad/simple graphics = no need for a good PC.
it doesn't work like that sadly
also minimum requirements are almost always higher than what is actually required, also try looking for modded drivers for your integrated GPU, I used to have an old dell with intel graphics and modded drivers let me play loads of games that wouldn't run at all otherwise

yeah I really enjoyed BL2, I am thinking about getting the season pass as that gives you the level 61 cap and 4 dlcs, the newest of which is meant to be really good.

yeah, I get the feeling it will be even worse than shogun 2 in that respect, which was fucking awful. I don't own half that game, since half the content is DLC locked. But it is still happy to do a 5 GB download to update the files....

The reason these indie games require good machines is because they are poorly optimised. There's literally nothing going on in Rogue Legacy GPU wise, there's no shading, no dynamic lighting, nothing. I can play Crysis on max settings and my GPU doesn't go above 70 degrees. If I play Rogue Legacy it goes up to 75-80 degrees. It's just pixels and a high frame rate. A good CPU and a bit of RAM should be all you REALLY need for a game like this.

I agree that indie games are usually terribly optimized, but it is usually down to the complexity of the code and the functions within the code that make up the requirements. Like procedural generation, etc. There are other things that require alot of processing as well, like audio.
I agree that a game like rogue legacy should be able to run without a gpu though
the reason your gpu heats up so much is probably because the game has no frame rate cap, so your gpu is processing a stupidly high framerate
do you get coil whine while playing it?
try forcing vsync

I just beat the first boss, turns out the spinning flame spell thing you get makes mincemeat of him

Really good 4 page interview on the future of Dwarf Fortress on Gamasutra.
http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/1 ... n_2013.php
Speculating version 1.0 in 20 years time. Makes sense since it's probably one of the most in depth games to date.
