deadly habit wrote:It's only free if you preorder is the issue, it's only industry standard because people take it even though I can't think of anyone but publishers who approve. It's a damn good reason to boycott, it's called voting with your wallet, I also refuse to buy any EA products because I hate their business practices.
Fair enough, but remember Creative Assembly is basically at the mercy of SEGA, and they're the ones the sales affect most. I know buying the game is supporint SEGA, but I can deal with that if it means supporting a great developer and getting a great game.
deadly habit wrote:Steam actually had a detailed list of all the day one DLC prices on the store page if you didn't preorder which they have since pulled, and it totaled over $60, the price of the base game.
Can you link me to this? I just spent 15 minutes trying to find a single piece of info on it and nothing came up. Surely if this was the case there'd be a shit storm on at least one of the Total War forums. All I can find is stuff about Pontus and the Greek Culture Pack, and considering Pontus is free no matter what I can't imagine the Culture pack would be $60...
deadly habit wrote:If the content is ready on day one it should be included with the normal game package not sold at a premium.
Preordering is placing a gamble on an un-reviewed product, and frankly the last few times I did at this price point I ended up with some shitty games, also there is no real need for a preorder to reserve the game for digital because there is an infinite quantity.
The way publishers view it is that they need as many sales as possible before the game drops for it to be successful. It's a bullshit business practice but once again, its no reason to punish the developers. Creative Assembly have never let me down with a Total War game (with the exception of one really annoying bug that continues to this day for the FotS expansion for Shogun 2), so unlike 99% of other games I'm willing to gamble on this one. Even if it comes out with game-breaking bugs, there'll be a Steam patch on the way to fix it. I'm confident my $80 (fucking Australian prices) will be well-spent.

On the cores discussion... Software like Cubase, Cinema 4D, Keyshot etc will take advantage of as many cores as you have available. Mostly used during rendering, and honestly I don't see Cubase having much of an advantage with it.
Anyway, Sony just released Saints Row The Third, Battlefield 3, Deus Ex and Uncharted 3, Sleeping Dogs for free.
Fuck sakes Saints row is worth replaying several times by itself. BF3 was kinda lame but for free I'll take it...
They also released the free to play Spartacus game based on the series I guess. Not seen the show but the game is pretty cool. Like Mortal Kombat with gladiators. I had a fun hour or 2 messing around with that.

Yes, best game ever.
I usually play on TG station but recently with the server changes and sybil being down I haven't played much.

we'll have to team grief sometime..
Been playing it on and off for like 4 months, still only really play in cargo/mining/botany/clown/mime. I want to start chemistry and that but then I know I'll get jobbanned for creating explosives rather than doing my job.

just seen an EA advert on tv
MOST WANTED;
PAY LESS PLAY MORE
on site itself; "suspiciously low prices" well yeah if you're selling sequels only, wouldn't ask too much money either

@Maccaveli I was wrong about Rome 2 on the DLC, I was actually thinking of CoH 2 as I looked at both on the same day hoping to preorder, it currently has $55.74 of DLC
like 8hrs left on this bundle http://groupees.com/undead but having a blast playing The Haunted: Hell's Reach which cost all of 75 cents or 50p if in UK playing with buds, wouldn't mind a few more ninjas grabbing and jumping in though

$55 of content that could be available to everyone who buys the game for a start that is instead locked. It's such a joke that this is becoming standard practice for so many companies.

it's a great game, been playing it for the past 4 months. which server u on??
love the fact that you don't have to pay on a monthly basis and you still get tons of updates & new content. only thing is the eng game content is a bit stale, it's basically either the endless search for new skins or forging a legendary. also some classes are a bit useless in PvE especially in difficult dungeons (new aether dungeon is just.......), as I'm playing a necro which is just practically useless when it gets down to dps.
gotta get back to pvp & wvwvw when I'm back home.

when really extra cores usually add less than something like 25% extra processing power, and thats with applications/games that ARE optimized for multiple cores.
they should work more on making the cores themselves more powerful
but i could be chatting shit i dont know much about producing microprocessors
and axed i think its just because programming for multiple cores/threads is VERY difficult/time consuming
Tbh it's more AMD than Intel that has been pushing for more cores. Though for gaming they might actually become more useful in the future since both the XB1 and PS4 have multicore architecture.
most non indie games that are released today (that aren't pure console ports) tend to support at least 2 core processing, if not 4.
8 is only useful if you are running servers, however most modern advancements in CPU tech tends to be more with the use of logic gates and other "intelligent design" that speeds up the CPU cycles.
My knowledge level is layman at best when it comes to this, but I was under the impression that because during the pentium years, Intel pushed for smaller and faster circuitry they hit a heat wall and power usage was extremely uneconomical around the 4ghz chip design, they couldn't push it further. So instead of giving us 5ghz chips, they went with multi cores?

still i dont understand why anything more than 2-4 cores is worth paying for when 80% of the apps you use won't utilize it
