As you can see I do not really use the old midi keyboard, but when I get my 15" bass amp back I will sample some of the old organ sounds with plenty of sub ;-)
The stage piano is a blessing however :-)

Some mind blowing setups in this thread,
Especially Flippo, who looks like Monkey Maffia of Freude am Tanzen

If you're wondering where the monitors are, there are some bangin' 2 watt Packard Bell passive speakers under the table hooked up via a 3.5mm gold plated headphone jack. Fucking Hardcore!!! Until I can afford some ADAM A7's the headphones will have to do lol. :?

That's fuckin ridiculous is what it is.

I'm pretty sure that was just the heinous amounts of jealousy speaking.

And re: the midi controller thing i use one but pretty much only when i'm building synth sounds (i.e. keep hammering a key and twisting knobs). I find using it to come up with basslines etc is kinda counter intuitive cos i'm not a very good keyboard player. drawing it in cuts out the middle man between my brain and the sound - don't fall into familiar finger patterns etc.

It's not everyone's aim to sit around making fart noises on a synth all day....

Not sure what you're getting at regarding the funny MIDI controller thing. It's keyboard.

Unless you mean the faders... They're just faders. Are your hands mutated?

With regards to production techniques, we all have our preferences.

Tbh, I spent a good year drawing in midi arrangements by hand and it worked well.

While I realise that using a keyboard can speed up work flow, it doesn't solve the issue of being creative in the first place..

Midi editing by hand for the win I say. It's not like we don't quantise our hand played recordings anyway..!

That said, anyone with a spare 88 key weighted keyboard please send it my way lol ;)

i just mean that my brain's better than my keyboard skills.

All my hardware Is DIY (at the minute)
I just finished a rackmount Sound lab MiniSynth which is pretty limited but very cool to sample from.

I'm building a Monome at the minute, should be ready in a few days, pic was taken this morning, just waiting for 64 green LEDs

Mohan, did you design this PCB by yourself? Cool 8) And soldered manually or how?

I etched the PCB on the synth myself but the design was by Ray Wilson, to be honest it still has a load of bugs to be ironed out a few of the functions don't work yet. The front panel was my own design.

The Monome PCB is from the 40H Kit which I soldered together, it’s a pretty expensive kit but should be a lot of fun when it’s built (if it works)

I love DIY Culture, I just need to build my own Dub style sound system (perhaps my next project ;))
