Anyone who eats a mcdonalds that
a) is not drunk

I did think solar panels in Africa would make more sense - pretty much constant sunshine, huge amounts of open, uninhabitable space, and then just connect these back to lines to Europe, Russia and Asia. Would also put a smile on my face that Africa would become the don of energy production after being shat on by various western colonialists and exploitation over the years.
As long as it doesn't follow the all to frequent tradition of being controlled by an elite of unpleasant dictators.

Yeah same. Shit food, shit employers, environmental destroyers, and really poor record on animal welfare. Fuck them and anyone that supports them.

A few thoughts that come to mind.
a/ Some areas in constant warfare, loads of tribal rivalries with long histories with no immediate resolution
b/ No money of their own to put into investment due to massive debts to the western financial institutions
c/ Money that could fund this would more than likely come from western governments who wouldn't allow it due to considerable power of oil industry lobbying.

I think the problem with the solar panels arguement is the initial expenditure that needs to be made in order for them to be installed. Why spend money improving a future that you're not going to be around to see when you can spend all that money on weapons to blow up people in other countries?

Unfortunately, I think it would end up being controled by dictators with the way things work over there.
Its a brilliant idea though Shonx, but the irony is that environmentalists would be all over it for damaging the African Savannah's fragile ecosystem or some other such crap. Similar to how the environmentalists are protesting the wind farms here in SoCal because they are in a migritory lane for seasonal birds. I mean really, the birds will figure it out, and if we dont do something they're gonna die with the rest of us anyway.

Nuclear seems the only sensible option to me.
and to me - and we need nuclear powered spaceships to get rid of the waste
only sensible option

no they store chemical energy and convert it into electrical energy
