and whilst there is the odd tune which I like - it just isn't hitting me.
seems like the people on these forums think its grime mixed with house, but when i speak to friends who rave to this and a couple of the DJ's they tell me its all about the house and that they don't like many of the more grimey productions
the name is also causing me problems.. why not just UK House?
As a big tech house fan, producer and (sometimes) dj i don't think I have missed the "house" boat. Far from it... but i'm much more a fan of the US House / UK House played by Kismet, IC, Feva, Superior, Pioneer, Marco Del Horno etc etc. Producers like Wbeeza and MA1 spring to mind - although I know alot of people class MA1 as "funky".
wouldn't worry about it each to their own. and marcus nasty does call it uk house. uk house/funky, who cares!

Marcus Nasty has been making a point of not calling it UK Funky/House now tho, hes just calling it Funky - on a worldwide thing.

You don't
have to like it, why force it. MA1 is more Funky by association but his tunes are ALOT closer to trad. House. I really like alot of what Kismet plays fr example but to tell the truth I find myself FFWDing the tunes with loads of sax/rhodes solos n shit, I can't hack those vibes but when he goes into the more afro, slightly minimal ones its sick!
Wbeeza & Dubble D are sick! Them 1s go well with Swift Jay / Geeneus / D Malice tunes.
Its cool tho, House music is broad as fuck, just play the tunes you like, not about stiching a bunch of tunes together just cos they are 'UK Funky' & flinging up mixes u did with a bunch of tunes you downloaded off puregrime...

dude cheers for post this, made a long car journey much more enjoyable! Some of the tunes remind me so much of W London broken beat - it sounds like what broken could have become if it hadn't have got too soulful/wanky. Raw, rough beats.

WOW! That mix sounded so bad that I thought my headphone port was malfunctioning. You'know like when it gets old and knackered and you have to twidle it to get sterio. I thought I had one two seporate mixes playing at the same point for a while. It was like one mix playing through the left channel and another playing through the right.
The interview sounded like they wanted to kiss each other......could they have said 'funky' a few more times aswell?....
*please take this with a pinch of salt BTW. I'm not a hater....

I'm very new to these sounds, and dubstep in general, but I like a lot of these tracks in this mix. Especially Apple's 'Segalizer'. Just checked out Geeneaus - Volume One on Rinse, proper stuff there as well.
I get a sense that it's house music made by soca beatsmiths, with a bit of rnb vocalists run through Bristol-dubstep or that sort of thing. Hard to describe

Aaaaaahhh I haven't gone and slept on this funky business too long have I?
Definitely not 100% across the board with it, but im yet to hear anything from roska/apple which hasn't been seeeeeeriously good.
And on that note, I would be phenomenally grateful, and quite possibly 1 DMZ drink down if anyone could point me in the direction of where to find roska's climate change ep, or slightly more desperately, Siegalizer!!!!!!

Im listening to DJ Mystery presents Funky Skank right now. Not sure where i downloaded it from but it's a right foot shuffler. Some damn good House music.
Alot of this stuff sounds very much like Broken Beat though, is it really a new genre??

Gone in both unfortunately

However! Glimmer of hope is there! Went down to my local record shop just thought id have a looksy (man who runs it picks a wicked selection of tunes) and fair play he did have it in but they've all gone. Said he had man like apple on the phone just the other day and hes apparently gonna send him off a few more copies he's got left! Hes gonna ring him again today to double check or something, then let me know...
A) FUCKING legend who runs the shop
B) Fingers SO crossed. Pretty much can't seem to find this anywhere now...

yeah sirens did come out on vinyl and went quite quickly. somebody reputable told me it was being re-released on another label though so there should be another chance to get it on the vinyl!
