You're hating and bigging up your own event. That's not a disputable fact here bud, it's posted by you and also by Sam XL. It's a political assassination. It's like democrats handing out welfare checks in certain cities, or race baiting, or flag burning or whatever you can drum up to get the swing voters to turn out on party day... it's the same shit man. And anyone who follows the news or politics or has studied rhetoric in any form knows what you are doing.
lol, dude really?
race baiting & flag burning?
jaybird is obviously passionate about what hes talking about, and perhaps its getting in the way of having a serious discussion, but dude, democrats & welfare checks?
lol. why not lets talk about whats happening.
look, as many of you pointed out, scion has the right to throw a dubstep event, or whatever type of event they want, and people can participate and that is what it is.... there ARE beneficial aspects, exposing new people to the sounds, artists and promoters get paid, and even venues get paid (not talking clear channel, but here in NYC they have thrown parties at spots where im cool peoples with the owner & im happy he sold so much alcohol)
but yo, when somebody local (not scion) steps up and organizes a dubstep dance, or any type of dance, they take a huge risk, and so when the dance goes off proper, they get their fame as a promoter. which is well deserved, cause they took a huge risk to push something that wasnt a guarenteed success, and most likely put in a good amount of work to make it happen.
if throwing dubstep shows for promoters was about $$ and fame, they would be doing something else. promoters more often than not throw shows because they really do love the music, and it shows in the product.
for scion and the like, there is zero risk. there very well may be somebody in their advertising pr department or whatever who loves dubstep, that i dont doubt (some very smart dubstep lovers even). but THATS NOT why scion throws shows. scion throws shows to promote its brand. the risk is probably less than a 30 second cable network spot, which they probably run thousands of. its ACTUALLY probably a fantastically cheap method of advertising, as compared to traditional advertising, which is why they can keep doing it, more than ever, with most likely very little provable results.
id say that the strategy is to have young people, "hip" urban young people, not run out and buy cars, but associate the brand with fond experiences and being cool. being "in the know" hence the whole house party & rsvp shtick. when these young hip urbanites get a little older they will be buying cars. maybe not even a scion!! but maybe a toyota or a lexus
in 2007 toyota sold over 8 million cars, 130,000 of them scions.
the idea is to get people loyal early, not to have them run out and buy a car the next day, soooo in the immediate all we SEEM have is a party, with a dumb logo on the flyer, probably a bunch of banners, some free crap in a bag.... but basically a decent even awesome party, where we get to hear some very current fresh DJs, the djs get paid, all seems welll......
but always there lurking is INTENT. we can just brush it off and toyota is fine with that because they can afford to let us... but the trap is set...
and id argue that they are being allowed to set their trap in some magical fertile territory... what we do in the dance is get people OPEN, and the power of suggestion while people are open should be (imho) used with the utmost care because the people have entrusted you with them getting OPEN..... and meanwhile, there in the background, toyota is lurking, setting its traps....
i think it is absolutely appropriate to have a discussion within the community as to what this implies, and how people are feeling about it.
and i think that anyone who wants to just drown out opposing views is missing the point of forums, the internet, community and DUBSTEP.
you arent a "hater" if you dont like what scion is doing, and you arent a corporate shill for dealing with them.
and whatever your opinion, discussing it CAN ONLY lead to progress, so kudos to kamala for jumping it off...
so whats up with the all seeing eye on that LA flyer?
