But is not letting them know your name really worth a night in jail?
They usually don't have any reason to id you other than the fact that you're out after 1 am. Or god forbid you had a drink or two. So yeah, I won't play along with their power trips done in the name of "preventing violent acts" or whatever.
And yeah, I don't really acknowledge authority. I did have some problems because of this. Like not being able to get a driver's license in my home town, but fuck that, still drove

yeah, this
Even if I give my fb out, I don't have any private info shared on it, except where I go to uni at. I don't even have my real name on it

or photos from which one could recognise me.

The story is this:
My friend and I had been out dumpster diving. To all those who think its a waste of time - Agent 47 I think you said "why would you bother?" once - we found 65 cans of beer so it was pretty worthwhile. We had borrowed some crates to transport it all home and were returning them. My mate goes off to put the crates back behind the shop, and I'm waiting outside. I notice he's taking a long time so go round to see what's up and there's a policeman talking to him, cus you know, carrying crates is well criminal like.
Me: Everything ok?
Cop: What's your name?
Me: Uh....why?
Cop: I'll make things difficult for you if you want me to!
Me: Am I under arrest?
Cop: I'll make things very difficult!
Me: Am I free to go?
At this point he grabbed me, pushed me to the ground and cuffed me. Bear in mind at no point was I being "un co-operative" beyond my right to not tell my name to anyone who asks me. I was taken to the station where they took my DNA and fingerprints, which will now be on file for the rest of my life despite the fact there were no charges against me. A solicitor finally showed up at 4am and basically told them it was all bollocks, apparently we were there for "suspicion of theft" because I had a torch on me, which was seized as evidence (of what? That it was dark?)
I'm now on police bail. They're going to try and caution me for it but I've been advised to refuse the caution...Which I was going to do anyway. At which point they'll decide wether they really want to take me to court and try and charge me...I hope they do.
This, Sonika, is why there is a lot of bad feeling toward the police. Most of the coppers were ok, we were chatting and joking and everything, but the guy who arrested me was clearly on some mad power trip and decided to seriously inconvenience me for no fucking reason. I don't mind the police "just doing their job" at all, I'm in no way one of those "fuck da police" guys, but I think its safe to say that arresting me the way they did was not "just doing their job", and so in this case I can say fuck da police.

You get nice coppers and you get tnuc coppers. And when they're nice coppers they are pleasant to deal with and generally you'll have no issue complying with their requests as long as you're not a twat, but when they're stnuc they're stnuc.
