are two books for the lay audience on that very group (and on the classification of finite simple groups in general) but if you have a half decent grasp of mathematics and access to a good library then I would recommend:

- Finite Simple Groups: An Introduction to their Classification by Daniel Gorenstein (but NOT his textbook Finite Groups or the 5-volume Classification of the Finite Simple Groups that he co-authored)

Though not related to the classification or the Monster another good group theory related book is:

- Fearless Symmetry: Exposing the Hidden Patterns of Numbers by Ash & Gross

Has anyone read IQ84 by Murakami? It's sitting in my book queue and I might skip it up a few places.

Only heard good tings. It's the biggest seller at the publishing house where I work. So I've heard a positive spontaneous review at least twice a day for a long time .

It's quite similar to The Wind Up Bird Chronicle if you've read that.

Might buy that last one as its on the Kindle, couple second hand copies of Symmetry: A Journey into the Patterns of Nature that are only a couple of quid on amazon so might buy that before I go away. Need to get some paperbacks; kindles are useless in the sun.

must be good! i read 1Q84 and it was one of the best novels so far.
I never read a whole book of nietzsche tbh. although i studied philosophy. never went beyond excerpts.

They don't seem to have Ecce Homo at university library but they do have Beyond Good & Evil, so i'll give that a go first.

Been wanting to read Sonic Warfare, but heard more people not finishing the book than people finishing the book it seems.

Austrian Perspective on the History of Economic Thought (Vol.1 Economic Thought Before Adam Smith & Vol.2 Classical Economics) by Murray Rothbard

Appealed to me not only because I want a better understand of Austrian perspective but this is one of the few books on the history of economic thought that goes back further than Adam Smith/Marx ect.

I'm reading The Call by Martin Flanagan, about the inventor of Australian Rules Football. I'd like to adapt the story into a film.

I swear this thread is like philosophy and psych reading mainly. Do you guys not read fiction as well? Even I need a break from stuff like Robert Anton Wilson or Sagan.
Also I'm taking it the non Frank Herbert Dune books are garbage since no one answered my question about the series.

rothbard's on my list. only read some hayek and von mises so far

i'm on like my fifth read and highlight of house of leaves and just finished dr sleep by king.
non fiction i'm working on all of sagans books.
I'm maninly waiting on the next witcher or song of ice and fire stuff
