Credit goes to the fine minds over on the image line forums.
I made those they were posted in the Growl Bass thread a few weeks ago. I hope you liked them!
EDIT: I hope people aren't claiming false credit over there, but eh, whatever.
Oh, sorry man. I think only one of those patches came from image line. I do remember getting a few of the other ones from over here.
Also, yeah man, they are fucking wicked.
Cheers for those impresario! However it's not quite what I was referring to. Those patches are great emulations of KTN's signature growl but I was talking about the sound after that, it's not really a growl. It kind of 'cuts' and 'twists' if you get what I mean, with loads of really resonant harmonics. Any help? I've tried myself but just don't really know where to start, nor have I seen it really discussed before.

Hi guys
Is there any guru which know how to make this in massive + what effects is on that sound ? I'm in the end , I've trying everything , I've been close with Duckorgan OSC and saw LFO on Daft filter - Cutoff, but i can't hit that metalic sound.
I don't want to copy somebody, i love this type of bass and want to know how. Thank you in advance guys!
BTW.... anybody know where get HO sample from this track at 1:26 ? ( I've heard it in more tracks than this one )

Forgive me if I send you down completely the wrong road, but have you tried foldback distortion? I don't think that's been mentioned since you posted here.

Here is a thread dedicated to the song Talk To Me, which I think is more in line with the cutting/twisting patch you're seeking? Bottom of the first page insists that it's not a vocoder, but I'll be goddamned if it doesn't sound like Ableton Live's vocoder, and I could have sworn KTN mentioned using Ableton on his facebook page a month or two back.
http://www.mediafire.com/?w3ozwqrp0ynhby5
This isn't remotely close to what you're looking for but FWIW, I got this by making a howling cacophony in Ableton Operator, ran it through the Chorus with the *20 button on, and then patched that through to Ableton's Vocoder, Carrier set to Pitch Tracking (and it wasn't working off of the original synth's pitch, it was working off of the pitch of the noise produced by the chorus), Enhance button on, the bands set to 40, the oscillator pitch at -12 and I think the formant knob was cranked down as well. I forgot to save the patch and I don't even remember the rest of the settings but it's sort of getting at what you want right? I think a funky vocoder will help you en route to more harmonics, or at least give you something worth pondering.
Now,
could someone give me a rundown of what's happening in the main reese of this song (0:43 onward)?
I know there's a reese thread on DSF but most of the stuff I heard/saw when I skimmed that was reminiscent of modern neurofunk, and to me this sounds pretty different from that- I know Technical Itch is a stickler for analog equipment and this song is dated 2003; am I right to assume it's mostly synthesis with little-to-no resampling?
How to make that bass. That filthy, saturated, bass.

Hi all. I've made EDM for a good... 7 months, roughly, and experiment a lot to make new noises, a lot of which become FX and atmosphere unintentionally. I have come forth to you all today/tonight to ask about a certain bass. No idea how to make it, or anything like it, but I want to know, if possible.
tl;dr I'm new, made EDM for 5 months short of a year, and am looking for help/advice to make a certain bass.
I've been tinkering around in Massive for the last hour with a lp saw, triangle, and sine, and distorted it to all hell, the whole time I imagined how it would sound, and it sounded not too far from this certain bass. Sure, not as grimy, saturated sounding, thick, or clean, but it still turned out great. To whomever that can help me out, such as listing rough estimates of amounts needed from VSTs and what kind of VSTs etc, I can either just give you my thanks and appreciation, or I can upload a sample library filled with drums, fx, and acapellas, or both.
Edit: Sorry if I posted this in the wrong place or anything. Only lurk here once or twice a week, but it's come to the point to where I need help on making certain synths, I made an account in hopes that the wonderful community could help me.

sounds like stacked saw waves SLIGHTLY detuned (not a reese), turn the number of voices up, distort it with a multiband unit slightly a few times, always leaving the low end clean and scooping out the mid frequencies around 200hz~600hz. Then saturate it a bit, lowpass around 5khz, highpass around 80 or 90hz and add a simple sine wave for sub (if you want a more defined and weighty subbass rather than a warm one) and compress. Most of the sound comes from the mid scoop after the distortion and the compression.

Any idea on how I could go about this in FL? I'm a little more used to Reason, but I found Massive to have an easier workflow for me, so I'm not up to par with how multiband works in FL.

there are a few threads on the production board about how to split frequencies using the FL mixer, try the DSF google.

Ah, thanks for the help.
Also, on the distortion part, after splitting up the freqs, do I only distort the mid or high, or both, or all 3? I'm a little confused. Also, does it matter what type of distortion? I currently really only have Camel Crusher and Camel Phat 3, and any specific amounts, or rough estimates? Sorry for being a pain.

I can't estimate, but I can give you an old tip that applies to every kind of fx: small amounts, multiple times. Camelphat is amazing and I'm sure that if you zap through the distortion modes you will find something that you like. I know people that like to use guitar sims, others prefer clipping distortion, I like wavy/waveshape... just distort the mids and the highs, but not the lows, so you get that clean and fat bottom end with the crispy and heavy mids/highs, always scooping out the dirt after.

You are a major help. I have now learned a little bit more about synthesis. I'm putting it in my current WIP, and I'll remember to mention you in it for your help, even though my fanbase is insanely small.
Synth... Reminds me of a flute for some reason.

It's a synth that I can't explain in any way. I've wanted to know how to make it for a long time, but I've searched a decent way, and since I don't know anything about it, I didn't get far at all in research. Any help would be appreciated.
Not gonna lie, listen carefully and it sounds REALLY suspiciously like modern talking.

Would be so funny if all of us are trying so hard with FM8 and resampling and then it turns out that all these dudes were just whacking lfo's on modern talking and deepthroat all along, hahaha.

guys, idk about the talk to me bass as ive never heard the song, but, kill the noise talking bass from "jokes on you" and "kill the noise part 1".
all he uses is massive with the chrome wavetable and phase, thats all it is. Its one of the only tutorial videos that i actually though they nailed it.
ktn even said on twitter "kill the noise part 1" was 90% massive

I can't offer much help in the way of synthesis, but I can tell you it sounds like a guitar; try focusing on the midrange and playing around with the attack/decay so that it sounds like you're plucking a guitar string (i.e. attack volume is higher than sustain volume)- use a compressor to emphasize the initial strike of the note as well. I tried to make something like your synth to offer up help and I think the most difficult part will be finding a nice warm overdrive plugin; I'm also too much of a noob to tell you if he's using chorus, flange, phaser or whatever but I'm p. sure he's using some manner of modulation, whether he uses that before or after the overdrive I also couldn't figure out.
I hope I was helpful

You don't have to man, but thanks. This forum gave me so much, the minimum I can do is help people back.
