obvious troll. i mean surely everyone has his/her own taste. but looking at the medi back catalogue and calling THAT the best release in years is just a straight piss take.

i legit looked back and if it's those 3 tunes on the Kaiju EP it will be my favorite EP on medi since probably Babylon Fall.
yes everyone has their own opinion and when I look through the medi discogs, I don't see another EP since then that has 3 tunes that I absolutely love. granted I haven't listened to every single tune put out by medi but taking a look through discogs, Babylon Fall is the last EP that has 3 tunes that I consider to be favorites. there are plenty of EPs that are also great but I think this Kaiju one is pretty special.
There were a lot of releases that were hard to decide, like of course Dread / Late Night Blues is a pretty special 12" but I'd still rather have 3 great songs than 2 great songs. 30,000 Ft. and Visitors / Dubfoot are also up there but still
(not counting albums of course)
out of curiosity, which release would you rate higher?

fair play. not gonna dissect the whole back catalogue, but imo the two commodo eps are way ahead of that kaiju release. all killer no filler and definately more original and unique.
other releases i'd put ahead: quest, silkie - lost tapes vol 1, kromestar & jay 5ive and probably a couple more.

big up. i also love the commodo releases. i wasn't counting the silkie cause that was so many songs and i don't know the kromestar/jay 5ive release very well, should check it out i suppose

i also really love the jack sparrow one and the dark tantrums plate. unborn (for me) is just one of those tunes that makes you stop doing whatever you were doing and listen.

Yeah the two Commodo EPs are classics imo
+ the Kaiju bits are also massive

I think the Kaiju release is no better or worse than the Truth release. Make of that what you will...

i dunno how anyone can dislike Justice Dub. if that tune was put out by Mala in '06 it would be a medi classic, considered one of the best medis ever.
seems like tunes that are released in the present are automatically rated much lower than they would be if they were released in the past. dat nostalgia factor

^ lol.
somethings are fresh
somethings are boring
somethings would be fresh if they'd appeared eight years earlier
but now they're boring. because 'twas heard.

Is that really all it comes down to? Freshness? It's great to seek out and support forward thinking music but seems a bit of a shame to disregard anything that doesn't have that explicit intention. Some tunes are just dedicated to a vibe, and the vibe is constant.

of course not. but wether something is considered a classic (which DrGatineau referred to) depends a lot on its musical context. Haunted would hardly be considered a classic if it came out today. that's not taking anything away from the quality of a tune, but the argument "this would've been a hit when it came out in 06" is pointless. even if it was a mala tune i'd be pretty underwhelmed.

Is not all about freshness but jerkhands has a point. Is obvious that 8 years ago that tune would have been more relevant. Justice dub is ok but they are a lot of better dub wise tunes out there.
Gratineou what you are saying is bollocks, lot of people in here rate the sounds that ZamZam is releasing and im sure that more than one person would include pirates or haunted harmonics are some of their favorite dubstep tunes ever. If you like the tune is cool bro, but don't say that everyone has lost their taste in dubstep because is not trendy.

don't get me wrong. I like the tunes, they work and I will most likely buy the plate. but it's not like they're the best thing in a while. they're good.

doesn't make DrGatineau's statement any more true though. some of the recent commodo bits, some LAS, Thelem, soundman chronicles releases and so forth have the quality to be considered classics in a couple of years.
it's not like there were only stellar tunes around in 2006. the ones still being played were the ones making waves back then and the ones who passed the test of time.

Kaiju did better with their Lioncharge plate tbh. I can see myself playing this in 4 years much more then the new ones.
