The reece tutorials on there are really helpfulEarjax wrote:Also interestedaxolotl-dubstep wrote:Absolutely in love with this tune, the sound design amazes me. I'd love to know how the epic sound at 1.15mins in is made and also the lead synth at 1.31mins in, thanks so much in advance : )

Well, he clearly uses sidechain compression to get that sort of "pumping" feel to the bass. Make a light, air type synth (no better way to describe it..) and look up a tutorial on sidechain compression. *Sonika wrote:Please help!
Help me make the sound like the synth that the artist Gemini uses in most of his songs, you know, like a pulsing synth?
I've asked this before, everyone says "sidechaining" like it's obvious...I'm pretty sure I have a basic idea of what sidechaining is, but I don't understand how just straight up "sidechaining" will get me that sound...
An in-depth answer from someone who has a mo would be MUCH appreciated
Thanks
Sidechaining is when you set up a separate track, for instance one playing a kick rhythm, and then you set your compression on your synth to sidechain through that track, which means whenever the kick on the other track is triggering copmression on your synth which gives a pumping and slow attack type sound. For the actual bass, a simple electro type saw with some distortion layered with a sub and something with high end, such as strings will sound niceblinkesko wrote:Well, he clearly uses sidechain compression to get that sort of "pumping" feel to the bass. Mute the trigger (f.ex a kick) so you don't hear it, only the effect (the compression). Play around with when you want it to come in etc.
Thanks, this helps a lot!Earjax wrote:blinkesko wrote:Sidechaining is when you set up a separate track, for instance one playing a kick rhythm, and then you set your compression on your synth to sidechain through that track, which means whenever the kick on the other track is triggering copmression on your synth which gives a pumping and slow attack type sound. Layering. Setup another synth with a different patch but kept at the same octave, and introduce a waveform on both an octave lower. This will give you a huge amount of variety in one sound. Two - you want to look at stereo imaging and compression. Sending the signal slightly to left/right and adding chorus can add epic weight pretty effortlesslymtl6 wrote:im tryin to remake doctor p's watch out to gain a better knowledge of sound design and melody here's one night's work so far

anyone know how to beef these sounds up? i know there are noises in the background in the original song but im trying to focus on the main leads. how can i dirty them up and get that crunch? is layering the right solution? i tried distorting and bitcrushing but then the leads seem to lose their focus and punch. what do you guys think?
