sheer willpower
the cravings go away in a few minutes so just occupy yourself in the meantime when you get that feeling..
i tried picking up another habit but it didn't work for me, i didn't want gum, i didn't want sunflower seeds i wanted that sweet sweet nicotine. so in the end, i just had to stop cold turkey, it's totally possible and don't let anyone else tell you otherwise

I say this in every "quit smoking" thread:
Find someone else to quit with (preferably a girl who has decent self control) and set up a schedule.
For example:
First 2 weeks: 1 cig every hour
next week- 1 every 2 hours
next- 3 hours
next- 4
And it doesn't have to be this rapid either. Do it at your pace, but you have to BOTH be determined. If you try to think of excuses to smoke, the partner needs to be able to stop you and resist her craving as well.
2 years ago I use to smoke 1 cig every 15 mins, and know its down to 1 in the afternoons. My girl and I sometimes dont smoke for the day at all.

I've not read it myself (it's sat on my shelf) but apparently the Allen Carr's Easyway to quit smoking book is magic. I know people that have read it, put it down, and never smoked again.
Quitting without willpower it claims. I have my doubts but it's supposed to have 95% success rate or something stupid.

Just don't give in cause you will go back to square one every time. Seriously, don't be like I just need a puff to calm my nerves, your brain will try and trick you into thinking a little wont hurt and before you know it you'll be a regular smoker again.
basically your advice in the "quitting smoking pot" and the "quitting smoking tobacco" threads has been "smoke pot"
I think I maybe might be a pot head.

It's fucking difficult. I stopped smoking cigs in July... went cold turkey for around two months, slipped up a few times pissed, mainly at Outlook. Now I've found myself buying green again and smoking it regularly, seriously fucked off with myself.

Book is alright, but it's not miracle or anything. It's seriously repetitive and boring.

Today marks the end of week 3 without cigs for me. Done a cold turkey. It's fucking grim and it'd be easy as piss to have another cig. The ONLY way I have coped is to surround myself with non smokers and Ritz crackers. Seriously it is fucking horrible giving up. It'll all be worth it in the long run though.

oh and most smokers should if they don't get any of the above expect to die at least 10 years earlier.
Man i am a tnuc coz i smoke loads and fucking hate it, but just find it so hard to stop even tho i want to.
i quit b4 by walking the dog 5 times a day, going out more, reading more and just keeping busy, but i started up again. the down time is hardest, like while watching tv and relaxing of an evening. i will quit hopefuly 1 day.
when i hear on tv bout people getting cancer and dying it always makes me wannna quit coz i just feel like a dick killing myself for something i don't really even enjoy.
