Dadvid Simon was on the colbert report last thursday, you can watch the episode at the colbert site.]]

Pretty hilarious, Colbert is super disrespectful to simon, waving his emmy in front of his face figuratively and literally.

series 3 was my fave...

i watched the last of season 5 last night.
what a crock of shit.

season 5 is waaaaaank. i thought the focus on the baltimore sun couldn't have been more boring. the whole mcnulty case thing was boring. if you ask me, by this point, the writers were really scraping the bottom of the barrel.

season 1-3 was dope! the street level/police level comparisons were really well done, the plot was interesting and UNpredictable, unlike season 5.

well shit series. proper anti-climax to a good tv show.
anyone shed any light on these wire prequels?

Davis is known for his unique manner of cursing, used often when confronted with bad news, comically elongating the word "shit" as "sheeeeeit."[1]

season five was the weakest but still much better than most other stuff on tv. apparently they weren't given enough episodes which is apparent because there was a lot crammed into the series, not a lot of which was explored in any detail....

i dunno about that, i quite liked it - although i watched that one first as i got into the show really late.

and... i heard david simon always knew that he'd make the shows entire run last sixty hours, so i dunno about that 'not enough episodes' malarky!

I didn't really enjoy the final season as much as the others, although I thought the 4th season was the best.

I haven't heard anything about prequels, although there were a few clips released for the dvd and on amazon for a look into some of the charachters - there was a bunk and mcnulty, a prop joe, and i think an omar one. They were very short though.

You should try and get hold of the Corner if you can as that is probably the true prequel. Simon seems to have a lot on his plate with a the New Orleans series and one set in the prohibition era of new york as well (if i recall correctly) so the Wire is finished.

Great show. Took me a while to get into it, it's pretty dry, and the acting at the start is a bit... off, I thought. But apart from that, it's great.

Quick question: Did anyone else notice the problem with the clocks straight away?

As soon as I saw the first picture, within about three seconds, I noticed that it was wrong: the hour hand was in the wrong position for where the minute hand was, if you follow me.

Maybe I should be a detective? (jokes!)

The other thing I thought of: after watching these guys come up with fairly amateur codes (designed to confuse any passing examination, but nothing more), was more general to criminal organisations. Secure communications is evidently key to keeping yourself out of jail, so why don't they set up a secure communication system. For example, you could linux on some blackberries, and install some open source encrypted communications software. Nobody but the NSA is likely to be able to crack it.

seriously, i thought i hated in comparison with the first 4 series, but have since watched the whole series twice more and it gets so much better the second and third times.

This looks to be the next project:

' Simon is shifting centuries with Manhunt, based on James L Swanson's novel, about the 12-day search for Abraham Lincoln's assassin. Tom Fontana, a Lincoln-obsessive who previously worked with Simon on Homicide: Life On the Street, is helping with the adaptation.

Originally intended as a Hollywood vehicle for Harrison Ford, Simon bought up the rights when the option ran out, intending a very different approach, explaining, "I don't do action". Instead, it looks to be something of a political allegory for the Bush years. It's safe to say Simon will be given free rein as HBO continues to struggle; keen to emulate its last huge hit, the Emmy-leaden historical drama John Adams, also about an American president. No word on whether the title will remain;'
