Just traded in every game I owned for GTA V and £100 in Amazon vouchers ready for my PS4 purchase... although I'm guessing because of stock levels I won't be getting it this year.

In chronological order...the original msx2 games are included but they do not start the story, they are actually set after the upcoming mgs5 but given they look like shit on a HDTV I'll be skipping them.

Been thinking for a while now about building my own gaming PC, but I don't really know where to start, there's so many options and so many places to buy all the different components....
Anyone able to point me in the right direction? Where do I start? I was thinking the case would be the first thing to buy then the motherboard?

Buy everything all at once. Newegg, Amazon and Tiger Direct are the best places for parts. Picking is an entirely different problem and really depends on your goals, budget, and brand preferences.

best advice I can give you is dont cheap out on the power supply or the case. I bought a shit case so I could get better internals and i still regret it.

yeah I was thinking of getting a nice big case, I want to be able to have a serious go at overclocking at some point in the future using proper liquid cooling so I need a big case for that purpose.
Thanks for the help so far guys, I had a quick go at making an estimated budget last night, I have it ranging from around £750-850 at the moment. I'm pretty happy with picking out most of the parts apart from the CPU and the Mobo, these areas leave me confused more than any other. I probably want to go for an i5/i7 Haswell but I am not sure which one is currently offering that top end performance at the best value. The motherboard could be anything. I am guessing having a fairly large one would be good to go in my large case to offer maximum ventilation for all the different radiators in there....

Case - Corsair Carbide
Mobo - Gigabyte Z87-HD3 (crossfire capable)
CPU - Haswell i5 4670K 3.2GHZ
GPU - Sapphire Radeon 7950 3GB
RAM - 8GB 1600mhz Corsair
SSD - Samsung 128GB
HDD - 1TB Seagate 7200RPM
PSU - Corsair Builder series 600W

Total cost - £775.00

Will get everything together once it has all arrived, give it a run then eventually have a go at overclocking with the heatsink I use on my current rig, I have read that Haswell can get about 4.2 GHZ with a good fan cooler and around 4.5GHZ+ with good liquid cooling. The case is huge and offers massive amounts of fresh air and a powerful exhaust, so overheating should be handled nicely. I will also be able to expand to crossfire in the future if I need, so if I have researched this will this rig should do me pretty well for the next 5-6 years and still be able to run most things at max or near max settings on HD. I'm pretty excited to be owning a rig that is going to be as state of the art as you can get without shelling out thousands
I also need a new monitor to compliment my new GPU, but I am even more confused about monitors than I am about building this machine. It's something I've never researched, so I don't really know what the current best technologies are employed, that sort of thing. The great thing about this GPU though is that it can support multi-display better than pretty much all the other top end cards at the moment, which should be nice for my DAW work.

yeah, I'm not gonna spend hundred and hundreds on a state of the art screen, just an LCD one that doesn't hurt your eyes after half an hour. I'll keep using my old 1600x1200 til I can decide what to do.
I found it pretty interesting to see the price difference in ordering a pre built rig and just doing it yourself. If I bought this prebuilt off a website it would cost well over £1,000.

you can get a nice 23"-24" widescreen LCD for cheap. I'm pretty partial to Viewsonic as far as brands. If you can afford it you'll want one at 120Hz.
Then again I'm pretty sure soon enough we're going to see some 4k monitors in the consumer price range.

cheers dh, I'll take that on board. How much of a difference does it make playing games at 120Hz compared to 60HZ?
One thing I seriously noticed during my quake days with this monitor was ghosting was pretty bad at some points but with other games i've never noticed it much.

Well once you push over 60 fps you won't notice the difference on a 60Hz monitor where as a 120Hz you will.
It's really noticeable when you're pushing 100+ fps on a 120Hz
Most LCDs these days don't have ghosting issues.

That'll work out just fine for you, to my understanding AC 4 doesn't have much to do with AC 3 aside from being set in the same universe. But then again, I have yet to play AC 4 and don't plan on it. Bioshock Inifinite is the tits. Hands down the trippiest game I've ever personally played.

Started playing and so far it's been pretty epic, especially playing with headphones on. Still getting to grips with the new combat controls though. I keep on holding R1 in combat and trying to lock on to opponents before engaging them. My impressions so far are good although I'm only half way through sequence 2. I've gathered from reading the data entries that Kenway is the son of AC 4's main character? And is it just me or does Desmond look more like a completely different person with every new game?

I loved the first two BioShock games so Infinite will probably be the last game on my list before I get a PS4.
