Anyway, unpopular opinion - Swamp 81s releases are getting increasingly boring. How long can you stretch out 808/909/X0X drums over a little vocal sample? If you're Loefah's mate and you put together an interchangable, done-to-death "UK Bass" track that goes off on the floor, watch your record fly off the shelves.
But Acid Jackson/Basement was huge!

yeah i cant understand why its bad to keep putting out the same style of music...
when its the premier label pushing that sound, its not like theyre releasing the same tracks over, just the same style

I agree on the Swamp 81 thing. The new Thrusta (tes la rok) remix is fucking bland and boring. Those tunes are rather 2 boring dj tools instead of bangers.

Honestly when I've seen Loefah play the last couple times I've thought it would linger too long on one style with out feeling like it was going anywhere.

is this an unpopular opinion? I sort of lost touch with them a little bit after they put those LED helmet thingys on.
Least where I'm from, people only know about them from Discovery (One More Time, that sort of thing) and the Tron soundtrack. You try playing tunes like Burnin' or Revolution 909 and people are all "wtf is this weird music."

I don't think you should VIP a track unless your track gets spun to utter hell.

nah vip's are good if you get a different idea about how a track could work, better than making two tunes that sound the same

Kid that inspired this opinion is a kid that hasn't released shit, and apparently "finished" the track last month, VIP'd it that month, and is now VIP'ing the VIP. Can you see where I'm coming from?

sorta, fair few tunes have multiple versions done but eventually you've just gotta leave it and start a new one
i'm shite at writing melodies so i like reusing old ones when i have a stroke of mediocrity

I hate referring to old tracks. I'm in the mind that if I already released it, it's already shit, so if I go back, it'll be shit too. I'm not sure of how other producers feel, but I reuse patches. I mean, you have to re-EQ them to get them to fit the track proper, but I see nothing wrong with it. Kinda like how a guitarist usually uses the same distortion settings and whatnot.

I couldn't do it. All I could focus on is "that melody" and it would probably mess my thought process up the whole time.
I get into total-focus mode when I produce, just hours of sitting at my desk or bed working, occasionally grabbing a drink or a smoke. Phone off and everything. Only time I procrastinate is times like now, when I'm looking for samples or before/after a session.

True story. Only one I really liked was E, but that's because he was a white man's rapper anyway.
