Dubplate culture is silly if it results in producers always holding back their good tunes. So many good unreleased & forgotten tunes..
Mala: "some tunes are better when they are just memories" no they aren't.

a vip is a vip though and not meant for release
vip seems more to now be a way of hyping a producers tunes up....often theres a vip of a tune before its release...or signed...or even cared about lol

Case in point - Eyez VIP. Not even that good compared to the original, but the hype before it's release was ridiculous...

You don't understand me. I don't mind a producer holding back a tune for a few months, but holding it back for like a year, then rinsing it to death and then releasing it when everyone's already sick of it is just pure fucking stupid imo.
Or what about all those producers making great tunes, and never release them so no one can ever hear them again except for some shitty radio rip on youtube. That just pisses me off.
In cases like that music should be free after a year or 2, maybe 3. Not "free" as in "you don't need to pay for it" but "free" as in accessible for everyone.
"Oh but if you want to hear their tunes you just got to go to their shows!"
^^^I fucking hate it when people say that too. It's not because you live close to london or any other big city in the UK and you can check out big producers and dj's every weekend other people can.
Also about the "music should be free" thing, that's why I hate vinyl-only releases. I really, really don't get the point of it. Sorry. Release on vinyl what you want but there are DJ's and music fans out there who can't be arsed always buying vinyl, taking care of it, etc etc etc.
Also a shitty argument I heard recently by a pro-vinyl-only guy: "but if you release on vinyl the music will be pirated less."
Bullshit. It's true that it's easy to spread an mp3, but hey, did you know, you can rip a 12" to an mp3 and spread that too! Whoa!
"But Nils, why don't you just buy the 12", and rip it?" Because I can't be arsed with all the crackle and static. Sorry.
My turntables have these earth loops I can't get rid off so I *can't* rip any music without a buzz.
Music >> Medium!!

Why? A good tune is still a good tune...unless the fact it's been 'rinsed' suddenly reduces it's quality somehow?

No but it kind of spoils the fun. You get bored of the tune before you can even have the tune.
Example 1: Sicko Cell. When I first heard that tune I was like "omg this tune is big!". Heard it live once. Lost my shit. Then people kept putting it in mixes (still unreleased), youtube rips galore, ... Then when it finally got released I was bored of it. Didn't even buy it.
Example 2: Ruff House. When they finally announced it was getting a Tempa release I was so stoked. Couldn't wait to finally hear it in high quality at home. No more radio rip or whatever. But it kept being pushed back and pushed back and when it finally was there, I bought it and I listened to it and I was like "meh". I like the tune but because they kept it back for so long and dj's kept rinsing it, it just lost a bit of its value if you know what I mean.
Many many other examples. It's just something that annoys me, because you can't fully enjoy the tune anymore when you finally have it.

Don't think you really get the point. I got no problem with tunes being unreleased for a while but don't keep them locked up forever or for too long.
And the Joe Nice thing, actually he can mix decent, but he's mainly so popular because of his dubs.
That's another side effect of the dubplate culture thing; too many dj's out there who are just known because they have unreleased tunes instead of real mixing talent.
These days in dubstep it's more of a "who can cram the most unreleased tunes in their mix" instead of a "who can deliver the best set" kind of thing.

It's elitist, arrogant and backwards.
The sooner people realize that the better.

Loefah on vinyl
What I try to do at the moment [with Swamp81] – it’s a similar kind of ethos. The music’s there on vinyl. If you want to go and get it, you can; I’m not gonna shout about it, I’m not gonna try to get it into HMV or whatever the fuck the high street record store is now [laughs], I’m not gonna go digital, I’m not gonna do all that shit… so it’s like, it’s over here.
If you want to be part of it, you can be, but you’ve got to make a bit of effort. And that’s kind of what hardcore was about. If you made the effort to find your local independent record shop, if you made the effort to get the flyer to go to the rave – ‘cos without the flyer you literally wouldn’t know about it, there was no internet, there weren’t many adverts, at least not for the smaller raves – then you were hardcore. If you did make that effort, then you were accepted, you were in a kind of gang, a club. It was a special thing, and it was linked into the record shops, the vinyl, the pirates, the flyers – it was all this one thing together
i feel your pain cus its not cheap but its more than just money with vinyl.

Also i think Mala is spot on here. But i can see if you dont live in the UK it can be a pain and can be expensive

i can sort of see what ur saying... but i mean i think that djs having exclusive dubs and stuff is what makes them exciting, it enhances the experience for me at least
