its funny to see that most of the setups are placed in a corner of the room. The most horrible spot you can get for monitors. Why ? +3 db bass... yeah i know u like bass but if you mix it unproper it wont kill the club ;)

Well I'm not 6'5 (but I"m no midget either) so it works for me. Plus it's very convent when sampling vinyl

Perhaps, but my small setup is still a wip. I understand the possible bass boost, but I'm looking into getting some acoustic treatment done. Just to counter attack the problem.

well its not really a perhaps.. it does give you +3db bass... and i advice you to get out of the corner. I had the same problem. I'm really happy i replaced my setup cause now i have some better acoustics. I still need to get fix the resonance in my room but my wallet isnt that full

edit : do a sine test to check out the volumes and stuff in ur room

True but there are ways to compensate...

It's funny that people are going on about speaker placement when most home set ups are extremely poor acoustically anyway so that is the least of your problem.

I use spectral analysers quite a lot because even if I trust my ears I don't trust my room/sound so that helps with the levels. Also check your mixes on a variety of speakers and setups.

Thought people would say about sampling records.

I played out somewhere where the decks were low and I had a bad back for nearly a month after playing only 2 hours.

I guess you dont mix often.

this, i can't put my speakers anywhere else at uni it sucks :-(

plus my tapco's are bassy as fuck anyway, using the room eq on the back boosting the high end helps a little but not enough.

can't put up any acoustic treatment either.

i got shafted with the smallest room in my flat even though i have the most stuff becuase i got here last :?

Exactly! Manray's nailed it as usual.
Plus a pair of good cans and as you said - plenty of other sources to listen to your tracks on. Big ups!

Yeah, I don't mix that often. But when I do, my back feels fine.

Think about what you just said mate...

It translates as "It's funny that people worry about their acoustics, cos they mostly have poor acoustics, so acoustics are the least of your problem"

Good speaker placement is KEY to tackling the poor acoustics of any room, and getting your speakers in the right spot is the cheapest thing you can do to improve the sound in your room (it's free to move your speakers innit) and you'd be a complete idiot to spend money on acoustic treatment without even getting your speaker placement right first!

i dont say you get your best acoustics when you place it differently... its more like you can help yourself to get your setup out of a corner.... see it as an advice. I also think you underastimate your room quite quickly... Not everybody has a square room.. Some people have a small room with buttloads of stuff in it and lots of wood. Well if you have your monitors placed good then you already have a small engineerings studio.

Well done. I'm not saying otherwise but most people in here can't dedicated a whole room to their studio and so have to live with a poor sounding room. So stressing about speaker placement is dumb, work around it and you can get decent results.

Speaker placement is just one part. For example my studio is in one half of a large living room space. Solid oak floor all over, very sparse, echos like fuck and impossible to get sounding nice without sticking loads of foam up everywhere. So the least of my worries is where my speakers go because frankly the whole fucking room needs work.
