TUNA! for eva.

I dont really have gear lust per se anymore, i just grab interesting things when they come up for a bargain.

Dynacord are my latest thing, got drs78, vrs23, srs56 and 2x TAM21s.

Also been fixing, upgrading cheap old delays, pretty easy and well worth the effort...

Yessss the Microbrute is so much fun. resist the urge to crank the pots up fully and you can create some really really nice warm tones.

also i'd recommend installing latest firmware (after you've established it works out the box) and using the PC option panel thing to get the LFO to restart on each note. Then have fun with that filter

Im pretty impressed with the micro brute so far. It can be quite dusty sounding and a little delay/reverb really bring it to life. I have installed the little software program as I found there was no other way to select the MIDI channel which has been the only disapointment so far.

and I did upgrade the firmware I will look into that LFO restart. Liking the filter pretty well so far. I know I knew this before I bought it but Im still a little bummed there is no noise on it for making percussion.

The metalizer knob has to be my favorite so far. Any particular knobs not to crank to get those warm tones? So far my Mopho is betting the pants off the microbrute as far as instant and huge low end.

@paradigm: liking the fixing up old delays thing you got going on. Wish I was more on that side of the whole hardware thing. Id love to build myself a Mutable Instruments Shruti and Ashunti, but learning all that stuff would eat into all my music making time...

For instant low end I'd say start with 50% triangle, then slowly bring in some square, with some pulse-width to your taste. Bring down the filter to taste with resonance for why not.

then take the mod matrix on the top left, LFO to filter, and ENV to PWM.

Attack 0%, decay and sustain to taste, and release about 20% or so, just enough for a slight tail.

That should be big and subbbbbby. The triangle is really low - just no metalizer!

The other option is using the sub oscillator or brutalizer oscillator. again careful with the overdrive (unless that's what you're after) and you can get some meaty stuff.

I'll upload something I made last night when I get home and i'll stick up a photo of the patch.

Another tip: I'm not sure how to explain (brain fart) - but when you're on the -2 octave, hit the down button again and you get -3 - two lights turn on. Never really made anything sound good that low, but I guess it's there.

thanks man, ill give those things a go, just got a pretty sweet sounding old school rock bass using the micro and guitar rig... Ill be submitting this track to tuna. Heavy hardware abuse anticpated

Elektron boxes are the tits. I had a Monomachine for a while (unfortunately I didnt really appriciate it and sold it). Id love to get an Elektron box again some day.

Ive not heard much talk of any of the Elektron boxes around DSF much, but Im aquainted with a few folks that swear by them and there are tons of aweomse videos on them.

Id love to spend some quality time with one some day, but Im quite happy with Maschine.

Probably because of their silly price tags (comparatively speaking) and that most of the folk round here are firmly routed in the budget/ghetto setup area

And yeah, the pricetag... People were saying I was mad because of it! But If I ever wanted it, this was the right time... My parents are paying my education and living, so I worked pretty hard for saving some money!

AND I'M GLAD I DID! Such a beast... My 707 never sounded this good! You can do ASDR shit on it, without having to sample it!
The midi sequencer is so easy and simple.. And it works so inspiring being away from the piano roll
The effects are the tits! Only weird thing is you can't use a reverb and a delay on the same sound!

glad you are stocked about the Octatract man. As for the reverb and delay issue try reading the manual. Also, I know when I had my monomachine the Elektron forums were quite active, have a look around.

Relatedly, a nice stereo delay or reverb pedal or rack unit might be a nice addition to your Octa someday.

@wub: I agree that people are into the whole ghetto setup around here. Nothing wrong with it. TBH a decent computer a DAW and some decent cans or monitors isnt really that ghetto of a setup. But Id like to see more people just give hardware a shot, Instead of jumping right in and buying something like Komplete, people maybe give something like a BSII, Micro/Mini Brute or ESX/EMX a chance. Just to have the experience of working with some knobby hardware. Software has much better sales than hardware, but if we talking buying new...most popluar VST synths are only a 100 less than a MicroBrute.

We can debate VST/MIDI controllers vs. Hardware all day. Both have their virtues. But there isnt anything like having an idea, flipping on a power button and being able to jump right in. Anyone around here who plays an instrument will agree with me Im sure.

Full agree...there has been a shift by manufacturers to making more affordable hardware the last 18months or so. Volca series, re-release of the BassStation, that Arturia mini as well etc.
