Being unemployed is so frustrating, I've had umpteen interviews and done my best to prep for all of them and finally decided to go and talk to one of the few high up people that rated me in my local huge tesco's and begged him to give me anything right there and then as opposed to him trying to find me a line manager or team leader technology role in the region (he's there as they're doing a refit)

I'm going to be one of the yellow shirt people greeting and helping customers...1 day a week too but need to be doing something...it's all they have right now

fuck it I'm gonna do that job the best I can and screw pride...do just wish my parents had pushed me a bit more to make something of myself so I had some feathers for my cap so as to speak...

Reading about everyones real jobs on here makes me sad when I've never had one...I have friends that get paid 75k a year as well and I really don't class them and me as being that different be it intelligence or work ethic...I just never focused :|

Re-skill mate, it's never too late... a colleague of mine was working minimum wage jobs until his wife got pregnant and he realised he needed an actual career. 4'ish years down the line and he must be clearing over triple what he was before he got serious even though he's still on the first few rungs of his new ladder.

Night school, online courses, even just studying for something off your own back (read: using PDF e-books rather than buying expensive textbooks) and then entering yourself for the exam. Get yourself a project management qualification, a bit of IT helpdesk experience (or something that suits you better if that doesn't appeal) and you'll be well on you're way.

I left school at 18 with pretty dodgy grades as I had zero application as a teenager (spent most of my time reading David Icke books, strangely enough)... my girl, on the other hand, went to one of the top colleges in America, got another degree over here and is NOW studying nights to get her professional skills up as she's a bit stuck in entry-level positions.... formal education certainly isn't the only way, or even the way at all! :4: :Q:

That's encouraging to read mate thanks...Maybe I should just pick something...project management might be a good thing to look at...

I'm an excellent salesman believe it or not and have considered estate agency...have no idea how lucrative it can be though but surely better than retail

Should have a look at consulting, there's loads of trainee jobs going all around the country. If your good at selling, you'd probably be good at blaggin people to work for a company

thats what i wanna try get into (even though im doing a music course cus im a twat)

they usually start on on an alright wage too and it only goes up + commission

Might be worth asking Dubluke a question - I know he was working as an estate agent for a while. Could be worth looking at recruitment and stuff as well? I get the impression a lot of sales type jobs are pretty rewarding because there's the real sense that you can always work harder if you need to earn more.

I can imagine you being a great salesman - I suck at that stuff. If you've got people skills (which I expect you've honed pretty sharp working in retail) you should definitely make the most of them. I have to stick to dealing with machines... I'd probably jump off the roof of my building if I had to deal with actual customers every day...

Project management is the white-collar goldmine though. If there's one thing I get tempted to switch over to, it's that... great money, reliable hours (the people you're managing might not say the same...) and, as long as you can be chummy with people day-in-day-out probably pretty satisfying too. Have a look at Prince2... get that on your CV and you're only a couple of years experience from getting 300/day for asking people "Have you done it yet?"

Having said that I haven't managed to sell myself to umpteen interviewers...had a really weird John Lewis one

John Lewis want the quiet people seeing as in this group thing anyone that opened their mouth was shown the door...

and @magma I know someone that travels to liverpool in the week and gets paid £300 a day to help a business..crazy money...I would save so much of that personally and the turn it into property
