I got offered a job at the Dockyard in Barrow-in-Furness before i moved to Bristol. It pays just shy of 4k more per year than my current job in Bristol does and i didnt even consider it, just thinking about that place makes me sad.

It's not just the fact that it's a Northern shithole (more working mens clubs per square mile than anywhere else in the world), it's the fact that it's literally in the middle of fucking nowhere and is a tnuc to get in and out of. Closest 'big' town is Blackpool (another Northern shithole) which at least a 90min drive away.

There is absolutely fuck all to do in Barrow and it is shockingly remote. Avoid all towns built soley to house it's industry workers.

I know a lot of Navy guys who work there and have bought houses in the Lake District so it's not all bad i suppose. One of the most beautiful areas of the UK and only a 30 minute commute, its got that at least.

Having said all this I do currently live in one of the worst, if not the worst areas in England.
