Yeah I got side tracked saying Beneath.. Beneaths earlier Funky/UKG influenced stuff and Acres more grimey stuff. That split 12" with Luke Leadbelly is huge!
Hodge as well, sort of.. first thing I heard from him was that remix for Ishan Sound, its all just straight up techno now.
I agree about Objekt, hes probably one of the original guys to try adapt heavily influenced techno into dubstep/garage which is what a lot of the 130 guys are doing atm. Early 2562 as well.

hm, how was that Ishan Sound rmx less "techno" than flashback / mind games? it's even got a 4x4 beat, doesn't it? haven't heard it or listened to it in a long time.
same goes with Bruce; this sort of techno simply inhabits a special place in my heart (btw, who was it that went to Bruce's in-store in Bristol?
was it Ben UFO in a mask?).
- [+] Spoiler
- I don't really see Objekt as one of the "original guys" to infuse dubstep with techno beats. Objekt made his impact in, what, 2011? yet Neverland was released in 2005 (imho still one of the best executed attempts at weaving the Detroit techno sound into a dubstep / grime context), 2562 started releasing on Tectonic in 2007, Martyn released Vancouver in '08 (don't worry I looked it all up
)... and Ramadanman went full Pearson Sound in '08/'09 aswell iirc.
we're probably agreeing on everything I wrote and I just misunderstood you from the beginning, to be fair.

Yeah I guess Hodge has always been the same I think its just the parts from the original that throw me. Works really well I think, isn't straight techno cause of the original parts.
Objekt seemed to take techno and adapt it to dubstep whereas the stuff you mentioned was dubstep with bits of techno influence. Instead of starting with a dubstep base and adding in bits of techno he seemed to start with techno and adapt it the other way. I think a lot of 130 does that.. build a jungle track but sort of build it in a way that fits into the ukg/dubstep format to make it different from regular jungle.

Yeah I see that point, you're right.
Bruce, Hodge, Alex Coulton, Beneath, Acre, Livity Gang, Facta's Poliwhirl, people on Cold - I really like where most of this stuff is headed. A lot of these guys seem to nail that "passive aggressive" sound; somewhat straight forward, banging club tracks, but still very articulate and refined productions, teasing and building tension by never really flipping the switch and not going full on distorted 808s... Lovely stuff.

Moved house so slowly sorting through my vinyls again.. forgot Hodge made a fair bit of house before techno! Some good stuff!
Some Jam City sounds like the new-wave grime instrumental stuff, Bad Autopsy - Ginmixer (Jam City Remix) would go nicely into some Murlo stuff I reckon.

I think a lot of people we talk about in this thread took a lot of influence from
Classical Curves and his other EPs.

Yeah, I think the whole of the Night Slugs crew were quite influential tbh.. aside from a few tunes they've always pushed a variety of sounds but kept it pretty cohesive and garagey at its core. Bok Boks Silo Pass helped with grimes slow patch and maybe influenced a bunch of new producers to revisit old grime (Kahn & Neek for example).
