the synths always remind me of some 90ies Model 500/Juan Atkins tunes. sonically, that is, with some very grimey percussion to top it off.
you could of course argue that there are better examples. this song could've just aswell been some early Addison Groove (or vice versa, depends on your position in the argument I guess):

caught him at Lakota in Bristol a few weeks ago on the thursday before tokyo dub, it was absolutely dead with no more than 50 odd people there but his set was absolutely incredible, also had a brief gurny chat with him after, the guys as sound as his productions

don't really see the similarity neverland sound much more organic, i think the one that has always had techno influences is peverelist, specially with the synth he used

I don't know, maybe I'm chatting out of my arse. it's just what I hear. agree about Peverelist though. introduced my girlfriend to "Erstwhile Rhythm" two or three years back and she just looks at me and goes: "so, what exactly makes this dubstep and not techno?"

never introduced her to me man! take her along for loefah or dubtopia. aight!
also: shit blew up in here....
funny annectode: our recent bassmusic party series first had the name ''130+''. but the collective of the squat we're doing the night at found the name so absolutely stupid we had to change it. decided to call it ''HRTZ''.
i'm out again.
edit:
ah. one more ting:
dusk+blackdown - back 2 go fwd>> EP is massive.

I dragged her to Kryptic Minds @dxm back in '11, you might have met her there.
nah no way, she hates every kind of electronic music but nosebleed techno.

Hodge as well, sort of.. first thing I heard from him was that remix for Ishan Sound, its all just straight up techno now.
I agree about Objekt, hes probably one of the original guys to try adapt heavily influenced techno into dubstep/garage which is what a lot of the 130 guys are doing atm. Early 2562 as well.
good shout on 2562

jrkhnds wrote:Acre has always been on the very grimey / techno side of things though. Not a lot of garage in his productions, as far as I can tell. Now, I only know his release on Cold, the split 12" with Luke Leadbelly, and the previews for the recent one, but if anything, he's gone more towards stripped-down, funky-infused, dark techno - as Beneath, like you said.
(By the way, I'm a bit surprised I don't hear Objekt's tunes in "130" sets more often, since a lot of them really fit into that 130/garage/techno aesthetic imho.)
thats cos 130 ppl hate techno

but that cyrus tune, thanks for the suggestions all but not that, sent it to a mate who's more into 130 and he agreed it sounded real familiar, could have sworn i heard a tune this summer that had the same melody
maybe i just saw blackdown reach for an old one and im being dumb aha
not exactly the same but maybe it was beneath's luisa?

I struggle to tell the difference between what's considered 130, techno and the whole 130 grime, it all kinda melds into one to my ears and it's all mixable together, I kinda lose track of where the boundaries are
maybe that's the point

idk for me it's pretty easy:
logos/boxed camp/w/e other devil mix guys/oil gang et al - grime
livity/cold/tectonic/mistry etc - techno

Yeah this, although if I was gunna talk about those tunes I'd probably talk about them in here. Grime instrumental thread maybe for boxed stuff but even then.. that thread rarely gets as much exposure as in here.
