Finally got round to watching Inception. Just shows that Nolan is actually one of the finest directors and writers ever.
Every film is totally on-point.

Nah, I Couldn't give a shit if you like Inception or not, that isn't the point. Giving such praise to Nolan is the point. He stole the concept, ideas and scenes from another film, in fact it's pretty audacious at how blatant it is. So to say that he is one of the finest writers ever is like saying Benga is one of the greatest musicians ever... a poor opinion is one that isn't thought out or backed up with knowledge :p

Have you not seen Memento, Following, Batman, The Prestige, Insomnia? Wasn't just purely basing that statement on Inception, thought I made that clear by saying 'every film'.
Your also forgetting that I said hes one of the greatest directors too and I stand by that.
If I had said James Cameron, then sure, I'd understand your why you face palmed.

Seen them all and it's only really The Dark Knight I like (but even then I have problems with his take on Gotham City). I find Nolan's work is quite insipid to be honest, he's not one of the greatest directors. He'll not be remembered in twenty years time, he'll not be as revered as Frank Capra, Stanley Kubrick, Alfred Hitchock, Steven Spielberg, Akira Kurosawa, Ken Loach, Roman Polanski etc. are.
He hasn't done anything original or seminal, all he does is special effects eye-candy for the Playstation Generation. I am not saying he's crap, I am saying that he is by far from one of the greatest directors, he's not even on the nominations. He's quite probably tomorrow's Guy Ritchie, he was flavour of the month in Hollywood once too!

Afraid I'd have to disagree. Of the last decade, he's one of the only directors that have stood out in the mainstream cinema and I think he deserves the praise he gets personally. Of course it's going to be hard to top people like Kubrick, Kurosawa, Hitchcock or Polanski but I think Nolan's output has been significantly above the rest of the tripe we have unfortunately been given over the past decade.
Very few people haven't been doing anything new in mainstream cinema for a very long time, he just does it well and brings a great cinematic experience. Each to their own.

Watched The Fighter last night. Really enjoyed it. Didn't like the soundtrack but still a decent movie. Watched the real Mickey Ward fights on Youtube after and was a good representation in the film imo.

memento alone is enough to make him one of the all time greats. the rest of his filmography is just rubbing it in your face. you may as well criticize leonardo for not having original subject matter. nobody's going to take you seriously.
