one has more skills than the other
but djing wasn't all "look at me look at me!" forever , most often it was a service to the crowd not to your self
not saying vinyl djs are lame, they are very impressive
its words that are getting in the way here obviously theres a split between the kind of DJ that serves the crowd, and the DJ that serves the crowd while impressing them

The analogy with the guitarist is wrong
it should be this: -
guitarist strums 1 chord at a time, playing each string with the right pressure (no bum notes/ flat / sharp/ muted etc) chooses the next chord very carefully and then plays it, simple as
anybody watching aint gonna be that impressed. (visually it aint that amazing) but musically this guy is doing everything right.
compared to
guitarist tries to play solo from enter sandman, tone is off, few wrong notes, timing is off in some bits, but visually there's quite a bit of finger movement there which looks cool
A DJ who doesn't beatmatch is not a bad DJ, are you gonna call out all the radio dj's because they don't beatmatch?
obviously they aren't "real" DJ's because they don't beatmatch, maybe they should be called something else, jukeboxes maybe?

But yeah, I always though the point of Ableton wasn't to emulate what you people call "real beatmatching DJs", the purpose is completely different. Do people actually just beatmatch with Ableton?
But to be honest I do find turntablism/scratching and all the hip-hop shit the illest form of DJing. But when my time comes to play out, I'm looking ahead, not behind.
