I got a setup from ebay a few months back relatively cheap - £360 for 1210s and a mixer which I was quite pleased with. I don't know much about what to look out for on mixers though - can anyone point me to a good guide? From what I read the one that came with - stanton smx 301 - is discontinued and not particularly high quality, and I would like to upgrade. Many thanks.

what I look for in a mixer is-

- sound quality
- nice faders, adjustable curves a must
- 3 band eq with full range
- xlr and rca outputs

you don't really need more than that... the 40$ numark pretty much has it all.

I want to check out that mackie d2 tho...

battered DJM 600, I got it the first day it came out and was begged to bring it to every party. nothing works on it anymore :(

DJM 800 thumps the crap out of the 600. The control you have over EFX is pure s'mazin.

Wish I could have the EFX of a DJM 800, the filter of an A&H and the EQ of surprisingly, a Denon DNX 500. Anyone ever used the Denon? Best EQ out there IMO

DJM800 sounds significantly better than the DJM600, on the 600 everything runs through the EFX all the time (circuitry wise) this makes it a pretty ordinary sounding mixer.

I have a Nuo4 myself and its dope, full cut EQs and no-nonsense. I'd probably prefer the newer model, the Nuo4.0 as it has individual channel metering, better efx send/receive and I think the upfaders are more linear.

I like the ease of use of the color effects on the DJM800- very straightfoward and quick. Ideally I'd like a Nuo4.0 with the DJM800 filter section for dubstep.

Tech/House/etc is a different story and the 4-band EQ on the A+H mixers coupled with the filters makes for good fun.

I got a DJM600 in a sweet 2nd hand eBay package and I'm pretty happy with it tbh. Mind you, I'm new to all this mixing malarky (my secondary school music teacher told me I was shit and gave me written work to do cos she said it was hopeless and I'd 'Never get it', so had a fear of doing anything musical up until recently :D ).
