Might be doing a full upgrade with the knobs, sliders and buttons soon. Gonna go with the Carolina blue pads. Not digging the prices though, gonna see if they can hook me up for buying bulk. Certain shit is kinda crazy, like 6 bucks for a single knob cap. Not the full knob, just the little black cap that goes on top.

The blacked out buttons, knobs and sliders should look tight though and I might eventually design a faceplate decal for it. The red/orange thing bugs me too, they should have just used amber for everything. Designing the faceplate yourself is key to get it looking exactly how you want it. They're expensive though, I can't justify blowing a bunch of money on cosmetic upgrades. At least not before I sink some money into other gear. Hopefully MPCStuff comps me some shit or gives me a bundle deal. Otherwise I'll probably end up just getting the pads.

Was talking about you to the sales guy actually. I had a look at their Maschine parts and they've got a decent selection. I'd probably get suckered into the wood end caps and an LED mod. Although I think the LEDs are a bitch to solder in.

I'm just finalizing my order with them today. Going for the Carolina blue fat pads and blacked out buttons, knobs and sliders. I might buy some LEDs off ebay and change the mod wheels and buttons to match the blue. Although the blue and orange already go well together. I'll let you know what I think of the pads once I get em installed. I was gonna get chrome knob tops but I'm just gonna use the existing black ones from the stock knobs. Apparently the knobs are really expensive from Akai. They sell the complete stock knob for $6.50 but the knob and cap are each $6 when bought separately.

I'm eventually gonna design a faceplate and either get a decal printed or paint it myself. I kind of want a city skyline or something that goes across the keyboard face. I think labeling things will be a pain to do by hand though so I'll probably have to get it printed.

SunkLo wrote:Just do the pad mod with some tape, no need to buy the fat pads. Although the extra thickness is pretty attractive. I might order a set soon.
The tape mod is fine though. Sensitivity is high, I can do little feather triplet 32nd notes with my fingernails and have them trigger. I had to re-open it and adjust a few pads near the edges but once you get it dialed in it's perfect.

is there a tutorial or some sort of 'how-to' on modding the pads with electrical tape? lots of people are talking about it but im not finding any results.. also can anyone link me to info about replacing/modding the pads on an mpd18?
lots of these controllers have different sized pads and i dont want to buy the wrong ones haha! <3

Dude, whats worse is that I posted or just read a fresh post in the one thread, went over to this thread and it was the same, I was flipping between tabs going wtf just happened, I mean, the post was JUST made. The invisible hand is attached to an invisible wub.

Just a quick aside: while this place is kinda dead, I'm sure you remember how this place used to fly, it is way more peaceful now that the broshteppers have (essentially) left. It is kinda like having the whole restaurant to yourselves. It may not be as fruitful as back in the heyday, it is way more fruitful than the pimple encrusted peak of the bro-era.

Still some bros lurkin. Lotta the #truhedz left too.

Got a few cans of plastic Krylon for the MPK faceplate. Orange, light blue, raspberry, flat black, and chrome for details and highlights. Gonna do like a sunset fading up into stars with a silver moon on the front facing edge on the keyboard with a redesigned logo. Then do some sky scrapers in the foreground by the mod wheel and sliders. Hopefully the orange and cranberry will get me a nice range of amber tones. I've been watching spray painting tutorials and learned how to do some cool marble and cloud textures. I might take apart the keybed too and paint the white keys black. Either leave the black keys black or paint them a cool amber texture on the top surface.

Wondering how tricky an LED mod would be. I asked the guy at MPCStuff if he's done fully custom MPKs before so we'll see what he says.
