Still got a lot of enthusuasm for dubstep but aside from that nothing seems to excite, at this point I think I've mined all of the genres I love, if I go see a little band somewhere I am always questioning why they even bother doing it, no originality, no heart in anything, chart music seemed to die in the nineties, there hasn't been a decent rock act since then either, jazz is just old black men in an elevator remembering him who played with him who made something good back then, reggae is deep in the third generation of self caricature. Funk and soul are a parade of backing bands waiting for lead singers. Hip hop went too formula.

Does anyone get what I'm saying? Is this too much of an emo post? Is there any life out there?

I caught myself downloading 500 country hits just to get the burst of something new. What's next classical, then opera then jump under a bus?
If you're looking for things to prove you wrong,
Rock:
The new mars volta album is wicked
listen to Isis - Oceanic

Jazz:
Nostalgia 77 sessions ft. Keith and Julie Tippet
Jagga Jazzist

Reggae:
Not so down with what's going on these days but try downloading a few dubcasts from dub.com, always some good stuff

Funk/soul:
The whole tru thoughts label, Alice Russel, Lizzy Parks, The Bamboos

Hip Hop:
Have you heard of Flying Lotus and the whole brainfeeder crew? I think they also do a poscast. Also check out Kona Triangle - Sing a new sapling into existence.

Hope this helps restore your faith in music!

Yep. Totally agree with this. I keep on finding more and more new music and i'm struggling to find time to listen to it all. I have a 80 gig iPod, it's nearly full up and I have shit loads of more stuff to put on it. Time for an upgrade me thinks.

get deeper man! that's the solution!

I collect since years early reggae, rock steady and 60s ska records. you know, all that original, first press delight madness. it's an endless journey!
everybody knows reggae; bob marley...
now, everybody knows the chunes of that man... but there are records of the wailers and bob marley solo back in the rock steady era (and also before!) on the wail n soul m label or other rare labels you have never heard and they are much, much deeper!
or thinking of some rock steady vocal-chune i found few years ago... a rare, sought after, extremely good chune...
then, last year while I was visiting Tokyo i was skipping through records in 'coco isle' record shop. i found some pre-release. didn't really get the matrix, so i had no idea who it was...

when i listened to it i fell in love with the deepness of this music! it was an unknown organ cut to the mentioned rock steady vocal tune. a Killa! I bought it and i was happy as never!

not because i possesed a rare record.

because once more i felt as if i was falling into the deepness of jamaican music. it's never ending. it's so damn deep.

the problem is: most people scratch the surface, maybe a bit deeper. but then they stop.
DON'T STOP! the best is to come!

perhaps the sounds will unify
an endless celebration of life
liberation from control
mankind (and womankind) in harmony
this song touches me, wakes my heart up like a defibrillator, not so sure about the video

the thing is there is so much good electronic music out there. And it depends on the scene.

My thought exactly. I can't remember ever having been as stoked on music as I am at the moment. So much interesting stuff going on everywhere. I don't have time to listen to it all. It's just fabulous. I'd recommend you check out a really weird label like Leaving Records for some freshness, they're absolutely fantastic, and most of their stuff is free. Matthew David is the man!

your stuff is great Limb unjaded myself
I read a book called 'the little book about books' or something which therein described the impossible nature of trying to read all of the books. I'm stoned right now so if this doesn't make any sense so be it. But the point I am trying to make is that music is no longer a stream, it's a flux. A fibre optic combination. The only time people seem to be able to sit back and take stock of music - the olympics perhaps. war is killing us currently all i see. jaded with that and I'm no solidier, I don't want to die. It's like the genres, I must have a hundred genres in my head, all recognisable, sorry rambling...

edit: has anyone got any belly dancing music?
