we all know its main room music but let people relise it for them selfs

One point is when I first got into jungle/d+b in Melbourne about 9/10 years ago, it was always in the sideroom of techno/house parties and raves and EVERY junglist had the same opinion as dubstep fans now- it has to go to the main room.

The thing was everyone in the jungle "side" room was loving it and brocking out just the same and the vibe was there, side room or not.

I guess my point is that, at this point of time if Dubsteps place is the side room why fight it? For now a side room is good enough for me.....

( keep in mind where I live hearing Dubstep out is a rare and precious thing- maybe if I lived in Sth london I might have a different opinion )

if you were goin to have dnb in second room then make it a room where you can go chill.... bar music.

i come from a strong dnb background and most people i know love there dubstep but their background in dnb is the same as mine, growing up with oldskool, jungle then sticking to the darker side of dnb....
think the last thing you wanna hear is heaviness in the dubstep room then it gettin spoilt by jump up..... you need a balance and dnb aint gonna give that balance.
dubstep holds its own and you need something to compliment that!

i used to be a solid DnB head, and it seemed pretty logical to be able to go to one venue and hear DnB AND Dupstep (whateva rooms they are in main/chill out woteva)

but you know what, last night in the dubstep room at Hospitality reminded me why i dont enjoy them big raves anymore, so many cocks with tops off, rubbing thier sweaty nipples and pilly willys in my back, while gurning face off .... when im tryin to skank, they're shakily swayin from side to side (dancing as they think) bashin me with said sweaty nipples and gettin in my GOD DAMM WAY! try tellin them politely to just step forward a bit and i get sweaty arm round me (pit to face ) and a slurred spit fulled shoutin in my ear.....

So from this experiance my opninion is to keep them seperate PLEASE! lol nah jokes, but i never get this at FWD @ plastics or DMZ.... everyones in thier spot, having a good time, relating back to the Dubstep & Drugs thread, i soppose its prob alot to do with that also....
Although it works really well in Leeds Transmission DnB/Dubstep crowd.....hmmm i cant really come to a conclusion, doh!!

I can see it being good for those into dubstep and dnb because what do you do in a chill out area but smoke weed (people don't actually have conversations do they? lol) and I like a bit of dubstep when I'm smoking weed.

But I suppose people have a point about it being there to dance to, or at least a lot of it. Reminds me of seeing Tayo play a dub set at Bestival and everyone except me and a few others being sat down smoking weed just staring at it. I'd read a book recently about dub/reggae and how dub started out basically as dance music, versions of tunes that had been messed about with to make the crowd go mad. And now a lot of people see dub as sit-in-a-bean-bag-with-your-bong-up-your-chin-picking-your-nose-and-putting-a-bud-like-green-wad-of-putrid-cakey-snot-into-your-joint-by-mistake music.

everyone's comparing dubstep and dnb a bit too much onhere anyway.

i come from dnb aswell, i'm still into it but it's stupid imo that about whatever thing people have to start making comparisons with dnb,
this topic is a good one because it's about the essence of the music, but dnb is getting brought up in the most irrelevant discussions..

I've seen it work a number of times at DnB dances but hell I go to the DnB room for a chill out

Detonate's main room is always DnB... but dubstep still goes off downstairs- its def not a chill out room- both rooms are kitted out with Funktion One rigs, so its just an alternative room... alot of people come and stay downstairs all night!

So it works here, but I guess it depends on the context (what your dnb room is like, how good you're residents are, what the sound systems are like etc)

At this stage in Nottingham I think dubstep is a perfect complement to DnB... cause all those people who used to think think they were into bass stumble across d/s and are clearly blown away.

The two work pretty well together around here actually. I've received the best response playing dubstep from the local dnb heads and I've found myself opening or closing dnb mainrooms with dubstep and it goes over pretty well. So maybe not chill room material but more 'not quite so fast but still slamming' type room as a compliment. Personally I think all good broken beat styles belong together

It really all depends on line up, whos putting it on, venue etc.

I play a lot of 2nd rooms at DnB nights.

The first one i did, well, hmmm, i arrived and there were millions of hardcore dnb gurned up people raving away. I thought I was gunna have to play to them, but when i went on at 12 downstairs opened, so I ended up playing to 1 bloke who asked me if I could play some "faster dubstep". Later he apologised and said he'd never heard Dubstep before.

After 45 mins of my set the speakers blew downstairs and up they all came and just stood looking at me, got a few words of abuse off some Bristolian girls like, "ere you love yourself dont you?", that kinda thing.

Then they cut my set short to put on the DnB again.

A few of us played a 2nd room at a Psy Trance night the other day, which i thought was the weirdest combination in the world (me being a psy trance big time hater). But, there was a good and very busy. Still tho, people asking for faster stuff.

Its pretty annoying being booked for a gig cos you play dubstep then being asked to play sumthing faster. But still, it doesnt bother me that much.

I think people feel the need to put Dubstep on at their night whatever it may be, cos Dubstep is massive. I seriously think tho, that not every night needs Dubstep cos people just arent up for it.

But...

My night in Bristol - Dubstep / Hip Hop / DnB / Jungle / Breakcore / Electronica.

The main room at one point went Loefah - Vex'd - Chase and Status, I was a bit worried to say the least, but the dancefloor was the most packed ive ever seen it be and the people that were loving the dnb were loving the dubstep and vice versa, the vibe was honestly one of the best ive ever seen.

Which is why im doin it again.

But yeh....it all depends really, like i said up there.

here in sarajevo , we organized a dnb/dubstep(and a lil bit of grime) party, where both of genres were on main floor.
the audience hooked up pretty good on some of the tunes i've played from skream.

i think it's the first time that dubstep sound played here.

Dubstep Djs should just play really agressive tracks, then we'll see 'chill out'.

But it's good all in all, dubstep still has it's big nights and it might find new fans at the DnB nights. Win win situation.

we have dnb in room 2 at redstar sessions now which should be interesting...

i think the connection gets made not only for the obvious...raw BASS and BEATS, but because this is the the most UPFRONT style of dance music to appear in the last 10 years at least. Its impact has been the same as jungle really..MASSIVE...its got people talking, people curious, heads are turning and things are happening. Its not your standard.

I can only speak from my personal take on it. I have been a dedicated follower of the almighty hardcore/jungle/drum & bass from the start...but it lost its edge for me after so MANY amazing years of musical creativity....its really lost it for me.....fast forward to now....i come across this stuff and its the first time in ALONG time that i was jaw dropped by what i heard. For alot of dnb heads its filling that void.. the void that need to be filled with the need to hear cutting edge sounds, people using there heads to make some amazing and interesting music... you never know whats coming next. I love it. I hear a new skream or mystiks track...its great.. but then im thinking well.. what are these blokes working one RIGHT NOW? whats coming next.....this is why i got into jungle....its why im now ADDICTED to dubstep.

The main room / front room debate....does it really matter as long as it gets hammered and people are feeling it. Great things take time...dnb is pushing 15 years strong.... I truly believe Dubstep has the potential to do the same. Its early days so enjoy the ride....it only gonna get BETTER!!

I think dubstep is best listened to in an english country garden. Fuck your over priced clubs and bars. who needs that? Stick dubstep on radio 4. Then you can take your hand held radio outside and enjoy gods great creation.
