As far as using/commisioning tracks from other artists goes, Snatch and Children of Men are the top for me.

For original soundtracks, Requiem For A Dream and The Fountain top the list. The Fountain is the only soundtrack that I'll actually listen through on my own in the house.



This is the best song I've ever heard in any film, ever. If Godspeed You! Black Emperor wrote film soundtracks, it would sound like this. Insanely epic, the final few minutes are just orgasm material.

I still love Lost in Translation soundtrack. I cant get enough of My Bloody Valentine. Also Babels soundtrack is amazing too.

You wouldn't listen to John Williams at home though would you? His music only works in context.

Actually, I used to listen to the first 60 seconds of the Superman theme quite a lot but only because it was the first track on my Nicky Blackmarket tape.

i agree 10000% with you, all of Darren Aronofsky films have amazing score. Clint Mansell is a genius. The Fountain is light years ahead of its time.

but to add to the list, anything in a Lucio Fulci films, including his sex comedies, anything in a Dario Argento film when he callaborates with italian rock group Goblin.

Well, this a subject dear to my heart and I'm sure I've posted some similar recommendations on 'Beautiful Music' thread. Anyway, no harm in repitition! In no particular order are some of my favourite scores:

Tan Dun / CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON
Epic.

Michael Galasso / IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE
Emotional.

Thomas Newman / ROAD TO CHICAGO, SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION (as sample by Jakata, badli in my opinion)
Piano loveliness.

John Barry / THE IPCRESS FILE (as well as loads of Bond scores, take your pick)
Makes you want to creep about in an alley.

Some people have already mentioned Roy Budd (GET CARTER), Enio Morricone (Serge Leone westerns), Bernard Herrmann (TAXI DRIVER) but they are worth mentioning again becasue they are IMMENSE.
