now in a short time ive become rather addicted to it

The problem is that there's a lot of people out there who'll kick off if they hear anything other than a sine wave in a tune, whereas they should be excited that one genre can spawn so many different styles. It's not that these new styles are replacing the original ones, but they are happening along side them, and I personally think that's a good thing. Some people just need to get off their high horses and shut up.

Hey Kion, hope you're cool.

As there's no objectivity, i'm sure you wont mind me saying in my subjective opinion, constructive critism is a positive sign of a functioning healthy community, evolving and in creative dialog with itself. Rather than suggesting that critism is itself inherantly negative, i'd be more worried about a scene where fans, producers, contributors, participants weren't free to express their viewpoint and feedback to those creating the music or putting on nights etc. After all, expressing your viewpoint is pretty much this forum's raison d'etre! if people want to critise the deeper stuff that's just as valid: there's tons of its that's very dull, not least the Burial clones you mention (i get sent at least one a month).

and joe, to your original question, i think it's a bit pointless looking for people to say 'wobble's not dubstep' as it clearly is. this whole debate emerged exactly because it is!

Who really cares? It's only because people are so caught up in assigning music to certain genres that these debates ever arise. For me, the music Mala makes bears no relation to the stuff Rusko makes, they're only compared because of the meaningless term "dubstep".

very true, it's all music really, names are just names.. in 10 years time dubstep will be uncool anyway and half of these producers will pretend they never had anything to do with it, while the guys who sidestepped the whole genre thing will emerge intact on the other end.

if there weren't shitty producers, and absolutely everything was pure quality, you wouldn't appreciate the brilliant stuff as much. its cliche to say this, but you can't have the sweet without the sour

Without Paradox that Paradox Diss tune would never have been made - that was a work of comedy genius indeed although I do agree with Paradox that some of Pendulums music sounds like Kazoos (duh-da-da-duh-da-da) yea they've done plenty of polished turds but theres a world of idiots out there hungry for their next turd fix so fair play to them, laughing all the way the bank!
