best storyline in a long time for me was bioshock.
soundtrack and ambience in that decaying underwater city make the whole game so tense and entangling.
seriously mindblowing plot twist involved too
cant wait for bioshock 2

watch the documentaries touring chernobyl then play this game.
definitely a "more than the some of its parts" type game. individual elements may be "meh" but there is a vibe in the game that keeps you coming back.
also watching the original Andrei Tarkovsky movie helps too..
All about this Game with the 2009 comp mod , Waiting for stalker cop to pop out !
yeah you know...STALKER is a dope game by itself but its ALL about modding it up...10 times better.
I'm quite into the L.U.R.K mod - its like 500 mods in one - tweaks the game really nicely imo.
Deus Ex is one game which drew me in more than most. its old now but the story is still quality and relevant. its kind of a conspiracy/political/matrix-like RPG/shooting game. really hard to categorise but absolute quality gameplay.

AvP should be mentioned as well, one of the creepiest games ever. Playing online as a marine and hearing that beeping lifeform detector start to go crazy, mixed with the ambience, and people playing as aliens crawling on the ceiling and jumping out at you. Had many a fun night playing that one.
AvP 2 wasn't near as good, but worth a play imo.
Ps2s finest, as close to the world of Avatar as youll find (outside of the avatar game). Legendary music

Fuck, I completely forgot about that. Playing as a marine on AvP was the scariest experience of my entire childhood.

Also take spare pants. Wear headphones. Play alone. In the dark.
The first Condemned is also very well done.
