I know you want this thread to die... but to be fair, if you were so concerned about it - you would not have started a thread on a public forum entitled "Datsik, I got a bone to pick with you..."

If you didn't want it to be a public thing, you could have just dropped him a PM or something. But, regardless what you say your intentions were, the appearance is that you wanted to smear him publicly about some minor detail that could have been solved by you just not buying the record.

I completely understand Datsik's reasons, but I don't at all understand yours....
Exactly this.

Its like a sociology experiment and a question, in one... lets me see if anyone else catches it, casue from a DJ perspective, you n I both know Mad Ep, its not about what we hear in it, cuz we listen to the tracks different then those on the dancefloors or on the other end of the airwave. This place is always awesome to gauge how the mass will see something, n if I put those two tunes right next too each other n the mass doesnt see what the dj does, its a good show on the tracks.
Exactly that.

fair enough - i can see where you are coming from... but I still maintain that you went about it the wrong way.

Yes - it is true that Datsik has graciously come back on multiple threads to explain shit he really shouldn't have to explain... and while it shows he is truly a humble and sincere artist, that doesn't mean he should be a dartboard for every little critique you, or anyone else, want to call him out on.

Yeah, he re-uses patches. Yeah he has re-used similar song structures and builds and whatever else. I defy you to find any other composer with a shred of success who hasn't done the same. I'll freely admit right now - not only do I re-use samples and musical monograms, but I have certain ambiences and personal samples that find their way into almost EVERY tune. Now, I don't always use them the same way, but that kind of self-quoting I feel gives a cohesion to my catalog (released or not). Sometimes I don't always play the samples "as-is", but I will invert them or only use their reverb imprint, etc.. Regardless, the fact is that most artists who develop their own style, have a tend to 're-tag' themselves (in a graf sort of way) in their compositions....

... and if you think that is something worthy of 'bone picking', then you also need to bone pick with Bach, Mozart, Shostakovich, James Brown, Public Enemy, John Cage, and many many more...

Personally, I'm way more worried about all of the producers that try (and succeed, or fail) to emulate someone like Datsik and make some of the most boring, unoriginal music I've ever heard. If "turdy" was an adjective I would have used it in that sentence as well. It's a shame how I used to like wobble and now pretty much hate it due to the 50,000 producers trying to "out-filth" each other instead of make good music that's not going to immediately get shit on by the new Skream tune anyway.

Also, I have to admit I did giggle at you making this thread and then asking in numerous posts for people to not respond to it

Datsik's a humble guy (unlike others within the dubstep world) leave the bloke alone hes come from a 'nobody' and grafted his way to the big time, swear he did it the LONG way as well (got bare digital releases before finally getting a wax release) I think he deserves a bit of credit for that. I'm sorry mate but this was a dickhead thread, its rude as a musician/producer/artist (whatever you like to call yourself) to disrespect another (musician/producer/artist). As much as I am not a "filth" fan, I appreciate it! You just don't hear it in my sets. I keep my opinion to myself innit!

And on the subject matter...

I don't have a problem with recycling - how about me using the same 6 snares for the last 2 years? no one ever comments on that! But thats only because I am not releasing a tune every month what everyones going out to buy, bet you people would comment/notice if I had more clout! But really, posting those videos and "calling him out" only just got him more plays and maybe more fans hahahahaha. Hate = best promotion ever.

P.S I know you ain't hating I just think you was disrespectful and this thread shouldn't of been created, I coulda gave you his AIM if you wanted to ask him!

PPS - I will not give his AIM to anyone - so don't PM me...

I think I agree with this the most really, there was a thread like this about a week or two ago, and Datsik came and justified himself on that one also.

It's personal art - you don't have to justify yourself!

wow, i got mad respect for Datsik now, for real... i mean he's like what? 21? 22? and with Excision and the Rottun crew inspired a whole new sub genre of dubstep... sure its not the classic, reggae riddim that it started out as, but really, the point of his tracks sounding the same is... if it aint broke, dont fix it..!

so much hate for replicating something that people love on, i GUARANTEE you, whatever he comes up with next, if it isnt in the same vein as his previous work, its gonna get torn apart because people just cry MOAR when they hear the grubby robot womps...

and who can blame them? i was scared that this thread was gonna out him for copying/stealing someones work directly, so im quite relieved, personally

biggup datsik,

EDIT: legend4ary put it the best ... hate = publicity, so im glad datsik didnt flip out

also, i doubt i ever would have gotten into production had it not been for him and his crew, i remember the first day i ever heard him, cant say the same for most other producers...
