No, see, this is where your making yourself look unprofessional. You need too answer these questions publicly, thats why your losing your rate of submission. People are getting too this point in the thread and honestly wondering why none of the little things like a brief outline of your promo plans and the style of music your looking for havent been answered.

I dont want too hurt you dude, I wish you the best. I dont know the validity of the pirate or tune hunter claims, and i dont think they should have been brought up.

But, things like your promo outlets and musical preference are questions that should be part of your demo pitch. Great example, abZ has a huge list of us on google he sends promotional copies of material too too mix and blog about. He wont be ashamed in admitting it, and hes not going to be afraid someone is going to snatch us away from him. Hell tell you all about it, because it will be concern of artists what he does for them in promotion. Promoters promote multiple people anyway. I find it hard to belive you should have to worry about anyone copying you unless your promotional foundation isnt very strong. And its easy to see why everyone wants too know about your promotional foundation, as EVERYONE knows that its promotion which makes or breaks a label.

Labels need to do their home work on this, you shouldn't come on forums with half baked ideas and then wonder why you are getting a grilling.

Imo i feel you have been asked reasonable questions which anyone would ask, don't take it personally but loads of labels similar to you come on here and other forums and just make them self look incompetent by not doing their research, however, i wish you the best of luck and hope it works out!

Not hating at all just be more prepared :D

Ok then..
To start off with we are focusing on digital releases, hopefully if things go well we will be releasing stuff on vinyl (but these releases will have to have MASSIVE potential or have had a certain ammount of digital downloads (to break even with vinyl you need to be able to sell at least 500 records). We will be distributing music on itunes, amazon, napster, beatport and all the other big online digital distrubutors.
for promotion i will be using all the online dubstep forums to publish our release posters etc. We have got people working with us who have shows on dubstep fm who will be promoting on there, i have friends that have radio shows on all fm (manchester) and another radio station in leicster. We have also had intrest from radio djs in american and people intrested in releasing with us in australia and america, so hopefully it could spread worldwide.
i have been in contact with a couple of famous producers to see if they wil release somthing with us for 100% of the royaltys, just becuase it will get some recognition to the label. one of these artists has also offered to do a remix of one of our tracks once a release is out.
i am going to get into contact with some of the bbc 1xtra djs to try and get some of our stuff promoted and played on the radio.
i am going to make a promo for the label consisting of various clips from various producers tracks and i am going to put this on a cd and give it out to all the djs i go to see and all the dubstep fans around my area and i would advise all our other artists to do the same thing.
once we have got a couple of releases out we will be putting on a launch night with artists from the label djing. I have contact with the people who run the 2 biggest nights in manchester (open plan & hit and run) and one of my friends runs an up and coming night caled 01:61.
once the money starts rolling in we will have the funds to start posting adverts on apropriate websites.
we are also going to use youtube, i am going to contact some of the good dubstep promotors on there (inspector dubplate etc.). as all our releases are exclusive and unknown im sure that some of these people will be happy to post our tunes on there youtube channels.
if you have any further questions or would like to submit a demo, get onto
subdirtrecords@hotmail.com
i am also a graphic designer and supply all the layouts and cover work for my artists you can chek them out on www.myspace.com/subdirtrecords ... i think it is quite important to keep everything looking fresh and profesional.

I get the impression your plans as a business aren't actually in blueprint yet and they're still in the process of gathering plans and ideas and putting them to action, which is fine whilst recruiting acts but the acts should be informed of this.

The professional approach to any situation such as this is only to inform prospects whatever information you hold in the clearest, most presentable and true manner possible.

Take telesales for instance, when you're trying to sell an intangible product such as insurance over the phone. You're going to get many questions about your policy that you're required to answer in order to get the sale because the prospect doesn't know anything about you or the company. If you choose to deny them these answers then the prospect will hang up and you won't make a sale. If you answer the questions then you're building a valuable bond with your prospect.
If the salesman simply said 'email us and we'll email you back with the details you require' then the prospect wouldn't bother emailing because they have better things to do with their time. So what you're doing is actually losing yourself potential sales.

Everybody on this thread is completely aware that there are many other labels out there which could do the same job as you for them. You're a profit earning business that would be dealing with peoples money and if you give a bad impression when discussing their money, they're not going to want to know you.

You should also keep in mind that people throwing these objections at you are actually interested in your business otherwise they wouldn't have asked any questions in the first place.

My advice to you would be to start the thread again but this time actually remembering that you are trying to sell the producers something as much as they're trying to sell you something. Remember they could quite easily release something on their own accord if they put the work in.

This. Also note, that Information about your label (type of dubstep, format of releases, etc) is decisive, if artits approach you or not. Imo, it should be you, giving sufficent information in the first place, instead of artits needing to approach you first, to see if it fits.

I sort of took out the stuff we as producers couldn't just do ourselves...

This is looking a bit mickey mouse. Seems like some kids who think running a label is easy.

Not true, I run a night and have an FM radio show.

What I am trying to say is...Yes you can do everything on your own - its just you entrust a label to release your music as they can push it better than yourself personally can.

While I think this thread is a joke - owning a label CAN be easy, if you put in the work.
