what are the origins of the term 'liquid'? i've heard it used in relation to d&b but i don't really listen to d&b so i haven't got a frame of reference.
on the face of it it sounds like a pretty stupid descriptor to me, whatever musical features or styles it applies to.

Liquid = jazzier and more melodic d'n'b.
Artist to check include = Logistiks, Marcus Intalex, Markey, Calibre, London Elektricity...etc Fabio plays mostly Liquid stuff.

ah right. i know the sort of thing. it just strikes me as weird though. why is that 'liquid'?
lots colour and variation in the scene = a good thing.
subcateogrisation = pointless, divisive and potentially destructive.

As far as I know it stems from Fabio playing the more 'soulful' side of dnb, distancing itself from the more abrasive stuff. But Dubstep doesn't need that distancing - it's too small a scene and its the diversity in the dance is what makes it work. Someone mentioned about having seperate rooms before long - hopefully not. I'd be bored stiff if the 'main room' played nothing but wobbly bangers and I had to go to a side room to hear DJ's such as D1 rinse it out. All in the main room is what I say.
I'm definitely feeling the new styles coming thru without a doubt, but ffs keep it all gelled together as a whole.

This thread really highlights how different the world of forums is from just sitting in your room.. and writing a beat because you feel like it writing a beat.
Why not just write whatever what you want rather than trying to satisfy the requirements for a scene to grow..

I love variety in the dance, nothing makes me go off more than a light hearted more melodic tune getting mixed with a fat arsed banger
