Nothing special about the topic you've got going on here. I'd actually rather talk about cucumbers.

Here's a link to my cucumber farm website: LINK

ps I possess so much knowledge on every subject, I'll laugh hysterically if you imply otherwise

Saying "I like Massive more and look at my sweet tunez I made with it" isn't gonna make the OP go "Oh shit what am I doing looking for tips on the software I have?! I wanna be like THAT guy"
Maybe if you used Reason and were posting an example of results you got like a couple of other people in the thread.

I like how you follow all my posts, its cute.

I don't go out of my way to poke fun at stnuc, it just happens when they bump threads over others that I'm on my way to read :Q:

The fact that I don't share my music doesn't discredit my ability to label you as a tnuc :t:

I wasnt to much of a fan of reason 4 but after looking at what Reason 5 has to offer, im def' going to buy it. The Dr.OctoRex would really be interesting to mess with. Going to have to dig the mpd24 out the closet xD

I can't wait for Reason 5 and deffinatley need to get record 1.5 too, so i can add some nice samples and live instruments into some of my tracks.

Baisically i am going to university to do music production, ive done a year at college on a music practice course and self taught myself on Reason 4.0 for the last few years using tutorial video's from youtube. At first i didnt really like reason but i loved the flow you could get creating a tune. However once i got my head round audio mergers and CV splitters i was creating some absolutley amazing synths and i also managed to get acepted into a music production course purely through the skills i had learnt in Reason.

But a good start for DIRTY synths is a Thor, PLay with the oscilators [usually PM or Analog work best but experiment!] Change low pass to a state variable/Leave as low pass [prefrence], Comb filter on Filter 2 and pick which osc's you want runnin through it or just all 3, Maybe add some Damage to it, then Format on filter 3. Be sure that you edit the shit out of the LFO level's Play with the comb frequency and for a nice little effect Route The X&Y Freq from the format to LFO 2 and dont sync it for a cool voice change effect.

Right not saying anymore now because ive already said too much! :q:

Yeah all the synths in my sig tune (brutal) are reason. Mostly Malstroem with a wee bit of subtractor. If you mess enuf with malstroem it doesnt even need fx to be dirty & nasty.

care to share some techniques? like what you have going on in with the bass about around 1.23? (track in your sig)
I haven't toyed with malstrom much.. only used thor for awhile then recently subtractor! I rewire reason so I don't use it for bass much.. drums/fx and a pad or lead every now and then!

heres a dirty subtractor bass tip
innit OSC 1 wave form set 15
OSC 2 wave form mountain shape
mix all the way down
LFO amount all the way up with freq 2 set
filter about a quater higher than half (you can link both filters)
phase on OSC 1 set to about a quarter the way to being all the way on
Phase on OSC 2 all the way on
get it wompin then add Scream set to Digistructor with the cut on all the way up (maybe mids highs and lows to your own prefrence)
Add chourus Flanger with the feedback tweaked to your prefrence
Add Phaser and tweak to goo sounding phase not to much though
Add vocodor set to 4 bars and shift to about 16-21
add master suite and widen the bass with stereo imager and compression
add reverb and eq and you should have a nasty grimey almost robo bass
Hope this helps please feel free to share more tips and tricks :e:

+1 I rewire reason and so far havn't found a VST that can stand up to the reason synths (imo of course)

As much as I don't wanna be a part of dragging this thread down I do feel I need to give SunkLo a massive "I hear ya buddy!" cos we are all thinking it lets face it...

I messed around with reasons synths not to long ago and made sounds so dirty I couldn't even be bothered to listen to them anymore, true story.

lets just say reason can do anything (within reason lol) .. and if ur into filthy sounds, yes reason can get as filthy as you want it to.

everything i make is 99% reason (sometimes i master with waves plugins out of soundforge) so take a look, free downloads for everything

I can produce a gritty bassline on an ESX, and Reason has more power in terms of sound modules than the ESX does.

Use your loaf. With knowledge comes the ability to emulate any bassline you here.

the sound in qustion is a subtractor going thru a scream. The scream is set to distortion with damge on 2 o clock, tone all the way up and presence all the way down. Also the cut is enabled with the lo and hi's all the way down and the mids in the middle.
Ive included the combi if u want to take a look at the subtractor patch. its not a very complicated patch, basically a number 9 osc going thru a notch filter with some LFO modulating the cutoff, but if u bypass the scream you can see where the guts of the sound is coming from!
Through the song i have automated some parameters, but it is important to note that i rendered the audio to reaper then chopped up the bits that sounded good and looped/moved/reversed /effected little bits for some variation.
Scream is still my fav distortion. it could make your granny sound badass.
Heres the combi...
