Sounds like bullshit. The internet was built as a military network, if one computer was taken down it wouldn't effect the others. Obv a lot of big sites are based in the US, but it can't 'kill the internet'.
Even if it does I still have my dial up modem to access BBSs like the good old days of ASCII porn.

yo, internet's power-switch is in US too:
The Internet has no centralized governance in either technological implementation or policies for access and usage; each constituent network sets its own standards. Only the overreaching definitions of the two principal name spaces in the Internet, the Internet Protocol address space and the Domain Name System, are directed by a maintainer organization, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).
At present, ICANN is formally organized as a non-profit corporation "for charitable and public purposes" under the California Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation Law. It is managed by a Board of Directors, which is composed of six representatives of the Supporting Organizations, sub-groups that deal with specific sections of the policies under ICANN's purview; eight independent representatives of the general public interest, selected through a Nominating Committee in which all the constituencies of ICANN are represented; and the President and CEO, appointed by the rest of the Board.

Dammit, Governments never want the people to advance, they want to keep them away from a fast and extreme source of knowledge about the world and it's activities. Bastards are always trying to hide something.

the smarter the harder to manipulate and control.
the bass-hertz type is their ideal citizen, you feed him some army brochures and tv news, he gets railed in a sec and ready to grab a gun and kill on order. in times of peace he's pushing the governmental propaganda and accepts being robbed and raped just as enthusiastic
but the difference is most people are a bit smarter than him and tend to learn something from the internet and get wiser, that means less obeying drones

It's actually very easy to disable the internet in a country. Just shutdown the the routers of the internet backbone of that country and disable the switches/routers that handle the incoming/outgoing traffic over optic fibre to other continents/countries.

it may be shit over here, but at least there is public outrage when try to push something as draconian as that on us
Meh, not really. We get shafted and pissed on by many things that would cause riots anywhere else, we sit down and moan about it for a while till nothing changes then just accept things.
Its all about the mass riotings that go on elsewhere, a bit more of that and maybe the public might have a bit more of a voice, while we sit about moaning about it on forums and in newpaper columns nothing is going to change, understandably.
