DnB isnt constricting, just the people who try to box it in.

i think outside looking in it looks constricting because of how badly an attempt to break a mould is accepted by the 'top' guys. same goes for any scene... its just that the dnb scene has been going for so long, that being a big part of it is almost an ethereal experience, and not one they want to be shaken from.

oh, and yes - 'producer' is another fanboi thing.

like 'yeah i mc innit'... holding a mic an spitting lyrics doesnt make you an mc.

sitting in front of an mpc / reason / cubase / a midi workstation tapping some butons.. doesnt make you a producer.

and believe me i hit the spectrum and have major producers playing it
now im pressing it myself
personally a constraint of dnb not genre or style wise but tempo wise now

that sucks man, but its cool to hear that your taking matters into your own hands for sure. its sad to see good music never getting exposed due to a third party's perspective of what they think music should be.

surely they wanted you to speed it up, jus so DJs would play it?

you need your tunes to be similar to other tunes.. so it gets into DJ sets for exposure, and so ppl buy it.. almost all people buy dnb vinyl cos they wanna mix with it.

yeah, i would say so...

its just a matter of having to market the track. they wont want to press something that wont sell because no-one can mix with it..
