whoo
my two cents: effing awesome night. not an ounce of wackness to be had... simply sonic destruction from start to finish!
in yet another twist, Unit played an absolutely storming dubstep set. and 2/3rds of the tunes he dropped (and I mean tunes) I didn't recognize.. original productions? dubs? anyhow, massive selection!
then it came time for RickyDef and I to throw down... it's gotta be illegal to have that much fun on stage! my first night on mic ever. big up to the gangsta audience - it's hard work and sacrifice living in a dubstep paradise, yeah? I think my fingers nearly caught aflame when I had the Benga/Three 6 Mafia blend going, wish I coulda been raving with y'all!!!
baseck's set was nothing less than stunning. I was blown away by what he was doing - cutting, scratching, and tweaking ever so quickly, and delivering the ruffest techno/dubstep beats. the only other act I've heard that's done Lion VIP that much justice is Vex'd themselves. rugged.
glitch mob... I think the verdict is already in. fat beats, beyond deep basslines... their sound is like the crunk relative of dubstep innit! when they dropped the Under Mi Sensi rerub I went nuts. edit and ooah were truly in top form!!!
and where to start with 1 1/2 hours of subaquatic bass? thank you Paul, you truly blessed LA with a stellar set. and to all y'all in the audience: absolutely wicked! you asked for rewinds, you got 'em! the drop in Disco Rekah was nothing less than magical. congrats to Vaccine, whose tunes found their way into Paul's set, and sounded brilliant on tha big system.
thank you everyone for the positivities. we'll be back so keep your eyes peeled...

Unbelievably pure dub vibration via Scuba. Some of those dubs sent me into deep meditative space, seriously! Long Live Soundystem Culture!!! Sometimes the crowd can be a bummer at shows in LA, but the folks at this dance were truly in it! DIG!

alright! alright! I don't like to be the one- but Firday was a little disappointing. Baseck's set was aiiiight. A little different from what I'm used to but I think those visuals that were playing were fucking shit up. Last thing I want to see is video clips of starving children in poverty while I'm trying to feel good about myself over a tall one.
Glitch Mob? WTF? OK, I admit these dudes had some serious energy and the crowd was feeling it but I wasn't. How is that Dubstep? They should have warned me on the flyer so I was braced for impact.
Scuba looked a little frazzled over the set-up but he managed to put it down although I didn't hear any crazy-wack-funky dubplates/special imports get rinsed out properly. He played the usual heavy tunes so big ups.
BTW did anyone else spot Boy George giggin' in the front?

Quite a lot of his set was unreleased and up front, what's your definition of a dubplate/special import then?
Couldn't have asked for more myself. Lineup, vibes, and selection were on point. Thank you Tim. There's photos here:
