As I remember it, he was one of the first big names to switch to final scratch.

I found it a bit strange since he likes to scratch a lot as you say, but still, he's been using FS for quite some time now.

(Has he quit djing yet btw?)

Loads of big DJs use CDJs but the majority are 12"

Most of my mates are vinyl, only a select few use CDJs and none use laptops.

thats how it is over here, i dont think ive seen any other dj play vinyl (for dubstep) but myself, it is kinda depressing, really weird too. I took me until typing this to realize im practically the only playing on vinyl. :(

The BIGGEST problem with CDs is you can't roll a joint on them! :E: :R:

spinning vinyl really is the only proper way to DJ. I started on cd but quickly straightened out my act

plus theres nothing like getting a new 12" and playing it out while twisting a spliff on the sleeve

I enjoy playing and owning actual records

I use CDJs occasionally for tracks that haven't been released on vinyl (mainly stuff people have sent me). Sometimes for tracks that I decide I have to play out but can't afford to or get hold of a 12" of it in time. but yeah really I rarely play CDs.

I def still use 12s, I have incorporated digital too, but one of the reasons I went with Serato(or just DVS) was the ability to still play plates. I love records. :U:

It's really depressing that this thread has to exist...

Strictly vinyl is the only way, i have played out cd's but only of mates tunes that are unavailable otherwise. Would love to cut em all to dub, but i'm too poor.

Personally i prefer 10" to 12"... dont know why though.

holy thread ressurection batman. anyways...vinyl only is my personal choice. i think the initial hardship caused is paid back in spades. plus its worth it to feel education run under my fingers. and i will be exuberant once i get mud in my hands

Wax all the way. Cdjs really aren't the same

honestly it has to be a solid release all around for me to pick it up on vinyl anymore especially when you weigh the costs of each when you're after just one side of a 12"
format doesn't really make a difference to me far as playing, and cds or timecode and a laptop is a lot more convenient than lugging around a bunch of wax since i'm not getting any younger
you just have to learn the nuances and quirks of both formats and the equipment
the classic adage of a poor craftsman blames his tools definitely applies here

For what was probably about 9 years I was very much a vinyl purist, but switched to Serato about 6 months ago. The amount of money I was spending on tunes, considering I don't earn that much, was getting stupid!
That said, I still buy certain bits purely because they don't get released digitally i.e DMZ, RSD white labels etc...

95% vinyl. Digital for dubs and tracks that don't get a vinyl release.

2nd, reading this thread makes me feel bad for playing cd as well, but then you have to take into account that you cant press dubs unless yuor loaded, and carrying my vinyl around does get quite heavy, especially when you go a long way, but still, vinyl is the one

Grandmaster Flash would never have this kinda discussion nowadays.

PS: Never used nothing but vinyl. Orders from UK to Brazil, one month to arrive but every new package I get is like a kid getting new toy on Christmas.
