The video was created solely to show that a spot of FM could get you in the right ball park in a matter of seconds.
Hmm.
Not really. All you created was screeching highs.

Anyways. im not here to argue i dont think anyone is right or wrong really.

yeah thats true, they should of called the DX7 a PM synth.

so their is no difference PM & FM, unless we are talking about true FM.

My first attempt, made the patch last night in about 10 minutes then just threw a song around it today. Quite like the melody though! Done on the TAL Electro free synth, i know someone else recommended it on here.

An attempt made on massive. its the closest I could get without layering the sounds which I defiantly think he does!!!

i like that.. was it just TAL by itself??

also that little stab in the background, is it a sample or did you make that too?

I have a really old plugin called Steinberg Ultravoice

it will shift your whole sound up and give it that high pitch sound without messing with the harmonics of the song using formant shifting

also, I reckon a ring modulator would have a similar effect

I've achieved some cool whistle-synth bass sounds with subtractor in reason. Anyone familiar with it surely associates the sound with the type 7 waveform? I threw it over a square i think, and messed around. not exactly doctor P but closer than the sounds i heard in this thread, imo. Maybe ill throw up a better explanation or just a patch later.. also, Albino is great at this but it's very new to me still...

Thanks, actually did a lot to it last night and working it into a full track now. Yeah all the synth work was done using the TAL Elec7ro, just with a bit of EQ and reverb. Assuming you mean the guitar stabs? That's actually just a preset inside Logics Sculpture synth that i played as a chord.

Bitch crush, comb filters (adjust the pitch settings), as for the rest i am clueless. I can make similar sounds (if i wanted to) but when i make them it can make your ears bleed.

i blogged about this today.. my first ever blog post ever :D i made the got 2 know synth a bit back, it's extremely similar i think! so decided to make a tutorial since i know a lot of people are interested..

So i have no idea about blogging, and i've never written a tutorial..

the blog is nowhere near done but i think the tutorial is..

http://basscarving.wordpress.com/2010/11/17/got2know/

it's for FL studio & Albino 2 but i'm sure you can apply what i've written about into whatever you use. let me know what you think as well!

peace x

So I guess no one read my post. The synth on got 2 know is a saw wave osc in massive with the osc set to formant. Turn the intensity all the way up and there you go. Layer a sub beneath it and you're done. No need for all this other bs.
