Civ V is much worse... started an Epic game today at 11:00 AM and played until now (10:30 PM), with breaks only to piss and eat

Minecraft is mostly PoV and sandbox, so its in a completely different genre of addictiveness...

i've never been a huge fan of the Civ series tho... the physics (like soldiers being as big as towns) bother me... i'd much prefer the oldschool age of empires

read this on a minecraft forum and had the best laugh i've had all week
Friends don't like it when you build 30-block high phallic symbols underneath their carefully crafted fortresses in secret. Even the second time you do it.

Ahh, been playing this for the last few days, such an addictive game!
Reminds me of being a kid playing video games, when your imagination when playing a game was more important than the graphics :)

can't wait for halloween update
world i started a couple days ago and have logged quite a few hours into doing some extensive mining and cave exploration
http://tentativerecordings.com/randomcrap/map1-day.png
going to start on a glass half sphere dome next, just wish i had some water body near my base/spawn, but i'm working on hallowing out a sand area to make one which is taking hours even using the torch method
god this game is crack

is that a picture of the full map? i heard somewhere that the map is supposedly three times bigger than earth's surface or something... is that just hyperbole?

that's just the chunks that have been generated so far from exploring
the world generates in segments as you move from one section to another, which is why the file size gets bigger and bigger

last nights big undertaking, the man made lake for a map with no major water bodies near my spawn point
Image
after i removed all the sand and valuable minerals from the area i wanted to make my lake in
Image
covered na layer of dirt to place the water on
Image
water placed, dirt removed, entire area flooded to make a nice lake

http://tentativerecordings.com/minecrack/map1-day.png entire map now (compare it to the last one to get an idea how big of an area it is)
:D
if smp is fixed up more in the halloween update i may try to get a server up for dsf and some others to play on

ugh that "Slip" hell world is the dumbest thing ever, its just a big boring fire world, what's the point? the scariest thing is some big lame jellyfish that makes the TNT noise over and over while it tries to hurt you... the most dangerous thing is the lava, and theres like three new blocks... looks like it'd be really easy to get lost, and when you portal out of there, it puts you ridiculously far away from the other gate in the "real" world

i just hope minecraft stays sandbox and doesnt turn into fucking Baulder's Gate or Everquest or something

p.s. how the fuck did that guy get a job writing articles for PC Gamer? he's the worst gamer i've ever seen, in minecraft at least -w-
