I'm happy to see that a good amount of people share my need for green and coffee when producing music
seriously though, i get writer's block a lot when i'm working on tunes for a long time, and after a while it just feels like i'm going nowhere. like everyone else on here, i'm gonna say spend time away from your DAW, listen to some music, and if you really can't come up with anything the next time you sit down, make some new patches and find some better samples... sometimes just not having good sounds can throw off your groove.

in my year of production i've only had one serious case of writers block but the way i look at it now it was my understanding of why i make music that evolved and it just took some time to set in. ask yourself, why do you do what you do? what are you trying to accomplish? stop looking at just the music and look at life itself. allow the emotion you feel from your own life to flow through to your music and let it speak for itself.
that, and time. nothing beats time. and psychedelic drugs.

+1 for listening to non-dubstep music and working in different genres. Helped me out a bit and it allows you take in new ideas. Oh hey, dubstep being original and not just using datsik basslines and YOY YOY's? No wayyyy

Of course I can only listen to so much of that in one day. But it is helpful to take breaks, party, get laid, study, etc. Like, you could be at your uni learning about some physics bullshit and an idea might hit you like "Omg I could use a LFO or an envelop to create this awesome sound!" and then boom! Something original. Just a thought.
Oh and read the monthly interviews on this forum. DJ Madd actually gave me a lot of inspiration because he does a lot with very little (Meaning free vst's and some samples). Very inspiring.

if you're not inspired by the life you live there's no reason to make music in the first place. of course you need to balance music and life.
