just to turn this all inside out - this dude remixed a salem track in a juke style - and it's wicked!
i would add Siouxsie & The Banshees to that list especially where zola jesus is concerned. but now w/ these bands it's like 4th generation and it's basically still the same. i guess as long as there are angsty teens there will be another generation of slow fuzzy ploddy bands to keep them filled with darkness.Motorway to Roswell wrote:
Drag is a lot more interesting imo. Reminds me of Joy Divison,The Jesus & Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine etc.
yeah, it's a bit awkward, but i'm not a very good dj, lol... i'm sure that it could work thoughapmje wrote:After this thead and looking around, my favourite tune has to be Salem - Redlights. Tune is actually magic.
Anyone tried mixing this with any dubstep yet? xD
Motorway to Roswell wrote:Juke vs Drag is a pretty odd comparison. Juke is built for the dance and for dancing to. The same can't be said for drag. They draw influences from similar areas, but they're pretty far apart.

just in general.. what one appeals to YOU more.. i know they are pretty much on the opposite spectrum but they both share one thing... a lot of hype and a newly found worldwide fan basejamesgarfield wrote:Motorway to Roswell wrote:Juke vs Drag is a pretty odd comparison. i've been trying to bang out a response with this exact sentiment but got a little too redundant.
this is the first i've heard of drag, pretty out there. does no one else find that live vid as haunting as me?

i know eh!! (most of) their album is beautifully darkclairvoyeur wrote:as absolutely horrible as that live performance i posted earlier is, Salem's album actually has some really good tracks on it. ive just never heard such an amazing range from studio to live act
this is really dope, especially around 3:30titched wrote:just to turn this all inside out - this dude remixed a salem track in a juke style - and it's wicked!
they're just shit live, most of its studio recorded + then manipulated so unsurprisingly when you can't just prerecord the terrible raps and screw them down, its painfully obvious you're bad at rapping.jamesgarfield wrote:to weigh in on this topic..i find this music (dragg?) pretty intriguing tbh. what's up with that live salem vid at the top? beatless, one guy on a synth, dead crowd, very very weird feel to the whole thing.
can anyone offer any insight? seems like a dope junkie/hatchet swinging midwest thing from the looks of that vid.
true that... listened to the album, some good stuff on there. really like redlight, the live version is not to good thoselrahc wrote:they're just shit live, most of its studio recorded + then manipulated so unsurprisingly when you can't just prerecord the terrible raps and screw them down, its painfully obvious you're bad at rapping.jamesgarfield wrote:to weigh in on this topic..i find this music (dragg?) pretty intriguing tbh. what's up with that live salem vid at the top? beatless, one guy on a synth, dead crowd, very very weird feel to the whole thing.

also a tent in broad daylight isn't exactly the ideal environment for this stuff, more headphones bizness
