MOTU DP is a beast, by the way. I'm living in the past on version 4.6 currently but will be upgrading to 7.x in the near future when i purchase a new macbook.
Wouldn't know how to compare to ableton, as I've only used DP and Reason. But DP has a distinct 'studio' feel to it, and doesn't seem to be well suited for live sequencing/playing at all, as i've heard about ableton. It's really great for producing, though

i find that this only happens when you use the "edit events" option, where the automation is moved underneath the piano roll for editing. did you do this op?

Why dont you export the loop of the wobble in time, without the fx, then put in the fx, and nicely cut the exported audio version from whenever you want it in? or is this not what you meant

I swear by it, I mean, I'm no pro producer but I just love it, I work quickly in it any I know my way round it, so for me it's flawless.
I hate all the bs people say such as 'you'd work quicker in Logic.' which is clearly untrue as it would take another year for me to learn inside out, probably longer!
Why is FL ever slated? You don't see anyone abusing Logic or say, Reason. :l
