you could try layering them so that transposing when transposing,

ahh sorry i had been up all night when i wrote this, i meant just 'so that when transposing'. like when you transpose a percussion hit down, you stretch out the transient so you dont get as much of a cracking hit, so you could try layering it with a none transpose version of that hit, or something else to give it that sharp hit.

Blawan uses a lot of subtle sounds like long shakers and snaps and clicks and they sit under the rest of the drums to fill it out and make it less empty. reverbed rimshots also.

sounds like a classic early house or early tech chord to me ... just tune ur oscillators accordingly...

ill try to tweak somehting like that in the future..

to me in that tune sounds arent that crazy, its the groove that glues them together..

yeah i mean it could be like stacked oscillators, or it could be like two note chords. i wouldnt really have called it a chord myself, but now listening to it, it does sound more beefy than just a note.

and well i dont know the exact proper meaning for transpose, but i suppose if you transposed a melody, yes it would be in a different key. but when im talking about transposing percussion hits, i just mean like changing the pitch. percussion is normally unpitched so your not really changing it to a different note, but you can tell that it is at a lower pitch/frequency. in some blawan tracks though you can see he kind of makes a melody out of the percussion, even though they have no definite pitch, he is transposing them relative to pitched intervals so, the intervals between the pitched percussion hits makes you think its playing a western scaled melody.

i honestly dont get why people say percussion sounds dont have notes...

some of them are in fact mostly noise... but an 808 has a very define note...

mate, an 808 isnt percussion, its a synthesised kick drum. im talking real percussion here, like things you actually hit, that dont have a defined note. obviously some things that ring out do, and marimbas and shit are tuned. but like a rim shot is short, sharp, and noteless.

read the pitched/un pitched section. some percussion hits dont resonate harmonically, this results in an un-harmonic sound so it cant be singled out at being at one note, which is the result of several harmonic frequencies, mathematically working together. this is why when synthesising percussion sounds you need the addition of noise, FM, AM etc. to give them that random element. an 808 kick though, is just one sine wave.

"Getting me Down" is top class. The percussion on that is very clean indeed.

Does it sound like there is more than one drum changing the same pitch? Like groups of drums changing the same?

The hits on the 2nd a 4th beat, are those rim shots with reverb? Same hits are in Burials tracks. How do u get them soundin like that tho? Change of pitch? Sound mint
