i think it's quite fascinating how the 'nostalgia' ting people describe with boc is pretty regardless of when they were born, tho, without it being faked at all. i doubt it's anything obscure though: i reckon it might be something to do with the fact that a whole lot of seminal kids shows in the early 90s were already 10 years old or so. i remember when i first got into them like 8 years back it sent me right back to school sick-days/inset days watching sesame st psychedelia while the sun was blinding and endless and i was 5 years old...

man seseme st was great, all those wierd animations they'd do around letters or numbers, it was DMT for kids
It's not just that. A lot of their techniques are based on the degradation of VHS tape and the media wasn't moving exactly as fast back then. No surprise that kids from the '70s are nostalgic for that shit. I was born in '88 and I heard the same sounds in the early '90s.

Well, there are layers of nostalgia on it now, aren't there? Like now when I listen to that stuff, I'm nostalgic for the late '90's being nostalgic for the late seventies early eighty's. Jokes. But beyond all that, it's just sentimental music in general isn't it? Like the sounds themselves are kind of forlorn and distant, sweet and unattainable.

Fuck, those guys really did have a sensibility...

I'd never listened to Tycho before, and yeah, it's like methadone boc. I really don't like the general trend of bashing people that work in the wake of innovators, like for example all the people that dis synkro for being a burial clone, fuck that, but I'm sorry, Tycho really does sound like he is just ripping off the sound, without any of the soul.

Are you guys into Odd Nosdam? He has got BoC-ish sounds and even officially remixed Dayvan Cowboy. Plus a bit of dub influence too.

I like Tycho, and his artwork (he's wearing one of those shirts).

In the same (ambiant) playlist I have loads of Kettel songs. Simply the best melodies in EM
