Still, its just music. The slang is secondary. You said it yourself, in the mainstream it takes awhile to discover what ever Rae was saying with darts and cream etc. at the time, but interest made it so that everybody understood , thats exactly the case with whatever down south stuff you want to 'own'.

I'd say the slang is primary to hip hop. I don't want to hear about fish and chips and playing cricket or whatever the fuck rappers in the uk rhyme about because I can't relate to it. If you're a relatively happy person why would you listen to emo songs about depression and killing yourself?

You can try to understand but the fraudulent portions come through. You can try to understand hustlin but if you've never had to hustle you aren't gonna relate to the music as much.

Jungle is instrumentals that sample from multiple cultures primarily US soul and jazz breakbeats which was first done by 80's hip hop artists, and NYC Garage basslines. The connection is there. Early jungle didnt catch on.... wasn't until jump up when more hip hop elements emerged in jungle that it made it big in the US.

My original point was people listen to that which they can relate to. The reason people don't dig southern rap is the same reason I generally don't dig west coast or east coast or foreign rap. Comparing widely instrumental genres is lame. The instrumental is a completely different thing than vocal as dialogue is completely different than visual.
