Still, its just music. The slang is secondary. You said it yourself, in the mainstream it takes awhile to discover what ever Rae was saying with darts and cream etc. at the time, but interest made it so that everybody understood , thats exactly the case with whatever down south stuff you want to 'own'.
Ofcourse there's a point of actuality or how current it comes across, doesnt really matter though.
Like saying jungle doesnt work in any other context than uk squat parties in the 90's..
I know what you mean about the connotations, comes with understanding language and in turn what that means in rap.
' I'm saying hip hop more than any other music relates to regional dialect and has vocal representation of where you're from.'
Then its the opposite - meaning that it brings a lot of info with it, that you can learn more from, if you are further away, in principle at least. But its not important , attitude and music is ..

I'd say the slang is primary to hip hop. I don't want to hear about fish and chips and playing cricket or whatever the fuck rappers in the uk rhyme about because I can't relate to it. If you're a relatively happy person why would you listen to emo songs about depression and killing yourself?
You can try to understand but the fraudulent portions come through. You can try to understand hustlin but if you've never had to hustle you aren't gonna relate to the music as much.
Jungle is instrumentals that sample from multiple cultures primarily US soul and jazz breakbeats which was first done by 80's hip hop artists, and NYC Garage basslines. The connection is there. Early jungle didnt catch on.... wasn't until jump up when more hip hop elements emerged in jungle that it made it big in the US.

I agree with most comparisons that disparage the US, but I don't agree with this.
Has the UK produced anyone like Big L?

I'm sure many people have had to do questionable things to pay the bills, myself included but It seems like you think its some badge of honour. And that people who come from a richer background have no way of understanding this.

No, I'm saying that people generally listen to music that accentuates their lifestyles. People who want to rock and roll all night and party every day listen to kiss. People who do not rock and roll all night and party every day can't relate and likely think Kiss is shit.

That what big business wants to make you think Pkay., that its not about the music or that you'd have to buy whatever to be a part of it and you are encouraging that, fuck that shit, go play dress up in any which way you fancy mate.. you dont have to play with syringes to enjoy some charlie parker, his emotions does come through the music and it is translatable without the brown hornet in your bum..
You are saying that culture comes from music, when in fact music comes from culture..

music can have an effect on culture/mentality though. uk rap has had an effect on culture, loads of kids gassed into thinking that they're some sort of machiavellian drug dealer because they read the back of 48 laws of power.

Right because kids in the UK want to be singing lines like "Texas is the home of the players and pimps" while beatin down the block.
Get the fuck out of here with your bullshit. Read what I wrote and take that big business shit somewhere else. Most of the rap in this world is independent... maybe that's what your problem is, that you're only being fed the bullshit big business wants you to hear.
See I can spin that horseshit argument around on you as well.

nothing is independent
I did read what you wrote and if its not busineess dictating your rules who is?
Are you the authority behind me not comprehending your local whatever?.
Is your point that music and culture is so disposable that you'd have to be at the exact spot at the right time to enjoy something, that last for about five minutes, that whatever it is loses its potency - seconds after and has to be made again or is it that you'd need long hair to listen to a guitar..
Have you seen white men cant jump too many times maybe?
You are from the biggest melting pot in the world and you still dont realize thats bullshit, come on man..

In which way, commercially It might not have, you said its not about business though and it did breed a few notable genres and a very defined aesthetic, so what is succes musically to you, being local?, come on thats retarded.. ?

lol I'm not saying you can't enjoy or attempt to understand but by default you're not gonna get off on a tune about the southside if you're from the northside.
Just like I'm not gonna get off about hearing about rollin on 16's in your daewoo or whatever the fuck europeans drive these days. I could insist that I enjoy that, or insist that I understand the appeal of riding in a daewoo pickin up some curry and all that but it would be fraudulent and forced.
My original point was people listen to that which they can relate to. The reason people don't dig southern rap is the same reason I generally don't dig west coast or east coast or foreign rap. Comparing widely instrumental genres is lame. The instrumental is a completely different thing than vocal as dialogue is completely different than visual.
