Datsik = yes. Chasing shadows = no (imo)
correct me if im wrong peeps. But basically brostep isnt necesserally Tearout/wobble. Its just the mid range, high pitched, lack of sub, chainsaw.
a prefect example of a brostep tune would be Doctor p = Big Boss!

I don't mind dubstep going commercial as long as the music's good. I like Katy On A Mission, can't fucking stand "Modestep".

there both tearout. but not both brostep. Check out Chasing shadows - odyssey. So much low end in that tune its unreal.
and then check out any dtasik tune pretty much. Not that much sub and just to many wub wub wubs, high pitched squeaky sounds
Apologies for not the proper terminology. im not a producer lol

so the level of sub bass in a song determines wether it's brostep or not?

whether you'll catch shit on DSF for liking them determines if it's brostep or not. There's no clear cut lines other than social acceptance.

Some people just don't like that sound. Why is it an issue?
the only issue, at least imo, is that the particular sound/style becomes exclusively synonymous with 'dubstep'. i've come across people who, when i mention the word 'dubstep', what comes to mind is midrange tearout.
There's really nothing to be done about that though. People are going to make the music they want to make and if the masses out there don't care to look into it further they're not going to. I'm personally into stuff all across the board, I'm as likely to be listening to Mala or Kromestar as I am to be listening to Datsik or Flux Pavilion at this point (partially credit due to this forum for that helping me discover the more mellow heavy side of the genre). I'm probably an exception sure, but I'm an exception because I'm passionate about music and cared enough to look into the roots of music I discovered and was loving. Most people aren't gonna care enough and you're right that the filthy sound may be what people outside of the community end up perceiving dubstep to be exclusively about, but getting pissed at artists for that is pointless and unfair. Most of them (not all but most) are just creating the music that moves them and they want to make, they didn't make the masses too lazy to look into the roots. Also, as I can tell you after being involved with creating various kinds of music for a decade and a half now you certainly don't get to choose when something you create strikes a chord with a wider audience.
I don't know, I'm rambling now. I guess my overall point is don't like something if you don't like it, but don't hold the fact that most people are stupid and not passionate about music against artists just creating what they want to create.

Datsiks stuff has a lot of sub actually. Him and Excision really have their production down. Doctor P, not so much. Chasing Shadows

This is actually the bottom line.
I've had a load to drink tonight so hopefully the following will make sense, I've just thought of this:
Imagine you're a Ferrari enthusiast, you've had a massive passion for their work ever since they started producing sports cars. The reason you had such passion in the first place was because they put in so much hard work and brought loads of originality to an already saturated market which nobody else seemed to bring.
Now imagine a few years later they bring out a very average car to test the waters, to see if it would sell. This car still has some of the things that make Ferrari great, It still has style and character and whatever magic Ferrari has.
Anyway, this car sells bigtime, people still recognise the Ferrari badge and know that it's something special under the bonnet so it's a winner. They've sold more of these cars than any of their previous cars, and made 3X as much profit as they originally did.
So naturally, it's not within their interests to lose money as a company so they start pumping out generic family cars, to increase profits they buy cheaper parts, spend no money developing unique characteristics to their cars and make them appeal to everyone.
At the end of this there is you, half of you is happy that they are growing as a company and making money, but on the other hand you've lost all respect for them. The passion that connected you with them in the first place has gone, they're not doing anything special or respectable, they left behind everything that was so important to them and which made them stand out from the rest and now are purely in the whole thing for the money.
And then you get bitched at constantly for even hinting that they've "sold out". No matter how much you defend yourself with good reason, there will always be people ignorant enough to say that "they're still the same as they ever where" when infact they only ever heard of them once they was on every TV or radio advert.
And then for the most part the cycle continues.
For the record I don't have an interest in cars or Ferrari, it's just the only thing I could think of whilst smashed.
Hoping to god this makes sense...
THIS SHOULD BE STICKIED

why exactly? if you are trying to stand out in this world based on the car you drive then you are infact a bigger douchebag than the people you are hating on
do something with your life. make something of yourself based on something YOU created. use YOUR brain to contribute something to this world. At that point you can enjoy music for it's aesthetic value instead of making it some type of lifestyle accessory to show off to your friends.
I can't say it any more plain and simple.
If you find yourself mad over the music another human listens to then you are a fucking loser of the worst kind.
I would rather my child listen to absolutely terrible music, than have great taste in music and be a fucking retard chatting shit on a message board. You can turn off bad music, you can't turn off fucking retard.

i'm not going to get into the subject of "mainstream dubstep" or "dubstep going mainstream" because it's not really something i care too much about. dubstep is just a loose label of bass heavy dance music around 140 bpm. if some cats go big on it , good for them. if some pop stars get into it, whatever floats their boat... doesn't really effect my life.
i will, however go on record stating that I do love a lot of pop music

Nothing wrong with liking pop music. Beatles were the biggest pop act in history.

Again, just like the other topic, what dubstep is mainstream? Katy B and Magnetic Man are mainstream and people on this forum like them mostly. The fucking horrible midrange shit is not mainstream at all.

a lot of you guys seem to be under the impression that ppl hate "mainstream" stuff purely because of it's popularity and because they want to appear ahead of the curve coz it makes you look cool and edgy. I'm sure for some people that is the case but for me personally it comes down to whether or not i actually like what i'm hearing, if i like a tune then i like a tune and if i dont like it then guess what... i dont like it
music shouldn't be a popularity contest, it should be about sound

FUCKING WORD UP
why do people get so butt hurt over people hating on brostep and commercial, and just respond with 'you do it to look cool' or 'hipster'. i used to think the same way until i realised the music i thought i enjoyed was slowly being turned into a series of unrelated and wank noises spaced between beats. i used to like flux pavilion for example when he first came about, then over the last year or so watched his quality and originality slowly decline as his popularity increased and circus was formed etc. you start to really hate brostep (and lose faith in humanity) when you see a bunch of sweaty dinlos with their t shirts off at mass in brixton pushing each other around to funtcase, then the dance clearing out when the likes of kryptic minds or kromestar step up and dare to drop a tune with some musical content

I hate the fact that people are ignorant to the roots and don't give any time to what dubstep is truly about. You'd be surprised that most people jumping on dubstep have simply typed 'dubstep' in to YouTube and listened to the first page of results which vary from Mt Eden, Datsik, Dubstep Santa and popular mainstream remixes of songs from Rihanna, The Streets and Paramore. I also think that most of these people haven't really invested in a decent soundsystem which is why the brostep, tear-out noise is more favourable as opposed to a sub-bass driven track from Digital Mystikz, Kryptic Minds or Kromestar etc.
Viral media and chart music I believe has played a big part in creating this image that dubstep is fuck all to do with sub-bass and intelligent production - being more about the wobbles, mid-range, tear out stuff which gets remixed on a popular chart song.
