I've been trying to find an appropirate venue for this for about 2 years now. Problem is - aside from the few heads who want to pioneer it - I know NOBODY in Edinburgh would bother going - the scene round here is too lethargic, and apathetic.

I wish, I would definitely frequent nights like that, it is my ideal.

This. It's like a cycle. Happened with Jungle, D'n'B, Garage, Breaks etc. and now Dubstep. I just wish people would stop being so pretentious and get on with the fucking music.

This last year has been great.. Kryptic Minds.. Shit-ton of DMZ, Addison Groove, Instra:mental/Boddika, Ramadanman/Pearson Sound, James Blake, Ikonika, Lurka, Icicle/LX One/SPMC.. the list goes on. so many great new artists/DJs/Labels and well established ones pushing the sound fwd.
Though actually, my sense of time when it comes to these things is a bit wonky, so it might be more like the last 2 years.

Just stay away from the word "dubstep" and you'll be fine.

In terms of dances, at least down here, it's been pretty atrocious though.. Been slightly overun by incapacitated plebeians with short attention spans. At least I've got my 12s and my iPod

i want to play to a crowd who actually knows about the music pre-2010. i'm seriously tired of playing to a bar/party crowd.

im more into it as an Art than a Rave.

i want to work with more visual artists who do VJ'n type stuff.

and i have gotten to the point where i am such a stickler about the sound being big enough (not LOUD but BIG and weighty) at this point i find myself just getting pissed off when im up there on the decks.

this is definitely a turning point for me and the scene in general IMO.

i love heavy dubstep artists such as Orien, Hulk etc, but i am more into listening to that stuff in the car than anywhere else. when im out at a night, that music is just to abrasive for me to chill to, and im tired of getting so drunk just so i can brock out. its fucking fun but its a lot.

i need the soulful sounds of the Deep Medi / Anti-Social / Gangsta Boogie / Dubliminal / Von D along with the cavernous bassweight sounds of DJ Madd SP:MC. etc.

i want to take dubstep in the states into a more grime/hiphop oriented direction sometimes aswell (and when i say hiphop i mean oldschool wutang mobb deep vibes) rather than "techno" but i do love the techno direction aswell. i just want more diversity, everything has been seeming so samey to me. im so sick of the wobble banger thing i cant even tell you. and it sucks because i actually do like that music, its just so overdone, and its not what i want to hear at the pub.

some nights i am really excited and passionate about the scene and some nights im ready to turn off the sounds and quit while im spinning.

im not sure what the deal is but i really need to just get working HARD on production so i can play what i want to play.

back in 08-09 i thought i was pretty cool for liking dubstep, now i feel like a f@got.. pretty much sums it up.

that's what you get for thinking that the music you listen to makes you cool
